    Turning Point Search is seeking a new Product Design Leader with experience in automotive acoustic / thermal systems for a direct hire position with our client, a Fortune 500 Materials Science company. This position will be part of the Materials Engineering Center of Excellence, and will focus on R&D, product and process design, multi-scale modeling, fabrication, and application testing.

    The candidate will lead projects and efforts, utilizing the company’s global resources and capabilities. This individual is expected to have a broad mechanical engineering knowledge base. Multiple projects will be running simultaneously, so good program management skills are a must. Experience making data-based decisions, and following sound engineering discipline is a must!

    Projects will involve technical aspects of concept design development, thermal /acoustics / structural analysis simulation, processing options assessment, part processing simulation and materials characterization including specialized application performance testing will be employed to execute engineering programs.

    Experience in automotive design and engineering is necessary for the role including the use of Finite Element Analysis.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Integrate with internal and external customers along with R&D, sales, and marketing teams to evaluate and scope project opportunities to develop new technical innovations.
    • Lead projects to take conceptual designs through customer sourcing, design development, product validation, manufacturability, and launch.
    • Provide application engineering interface to customers in collaboration with business partners.
    • Define capabilities and resources needed to execute projects.
    • Develop detailed project plans, timelines, deliverables and quality plans.
    • Develop creative and cost-effective solutions to complex engineering and design problems working with a designers, other engineers and fabrication resources through use of materials science, design, and process knowledge that meet or exceed customer's expectations.
    • Interface and partner with other groups within Core R&D to meet development needs.
    • Provide subject matter expertise in an area of engineering design.
    • Prepare and present technical papers externally, and properly document all technical learning internally.
    • Proactively drive and secure intellectual property including invention disclosures, case filings, and office actions.
    • Interface with leaders and focal points to promote continuous improvement and an inclusive environment of engineering disciplines, communication, and teamwork.
    • Promote quality and product stewardship inside and outside of the organization.

    Required Qualifications:

    • Master's or PhD in a science related discipline – focus on mechanical engineering or automotive engineering a plus.
    • A strong preference will be given to 5+ years of automotive engineering and experience in design engineering with acoustic systems.
    • 3+ years of automotive engineering experience required.
    • Proficient at scoping and developing detailed project plans, timelines, deliverables and quality plans
    • Proven mechanical intuition and ability to develop innovative concepts to meet the needs of product and system designs
    • Experience in automotive product design and engineering.
    • Experience in leading projects through the complete product development cycle preferred.
    • Must be a self-starter who takes the initiative to find solutions to technical challenges.
    • Must show evidence of sound engineering judgment/intuition and have a track record of creating value through innovation.
    • Computer-Aided Engineering (CAE) experience a plus.
    • International project leadership/teamwork skills a plus.
