Job Description
Turnitin is looking for a Principal Product Manager to help expand and grow the Gradescope assessment platform. You’ll play a key part in shaping not only the Gradescope product, but also the team’s strategy, roadmap, and how they work together. You’ll collaborate cross-functionally with people from Engineering, Design, Growth, Product Writing, Research, and more! Projects tend to start and end with our users, so you’ll also be learning from instructors, students, and admins all along the way. You’ll take all these perspectives coupled with your unique view to help bring about a product that seems to take on a life of its own.

Gradescope is an online assessment platform that enables instructors to grade everything in one place, including paper-based exams, online homework, and programming projects. We use cutting-edge technology and features like flexible auto graders and AI-assisted answer grouping to make grading faster and more equitable. Gradescope was founded in 2014 at UC-Berkeley and joined Turnitin via an acquisition in October 2018. Gradescope is used to grade over 1 million students’ work per year at hundreds of leading higher-ed institutions, and we’re growing quickly.

Figure out who needs what
Synthesize problems in a meaningful way
identify shared or conflicting interests across users and stakeholders
connect problems with potential solutions while balancing trade offs
ultimate goal: find ways to help improve education
Help us prioritize the building of these solutions
Leverage the strength of Turnitin portfolio to differentiate and accelerate market penetration
Communicate with everyone on the team, rest of the company, with the market, with users & customers
Develop a deep understanding of market
What our users / customers / partners need
Regional market needs
Competitive landscape, opportunities & threats
Translate market needs into priorities taking into account business goals, user impact, and other metrics to communicate trade offs we can make
Resolving differences between instructor, admin, and students interests
Balance priorities between these sometimes conflicting interests and business goals in a way that continues to help improve education
Shape the work to be done in each project (along with designers, engineers, we invite anybody to write them)
Help stakeholders keep the quality of these pitches high and are meaningful
Help stakeholders with scoping process
Participate at the betting table
