    JOB DESCRIPTION

    Two Dot Consulting (2DOT) is seeking an AVIAN/BIOLOGICAL TECHNICIAN to join our Saratoga or Laramie office. This position is for fieldwork near and around beautiful Laramie and Medicine Bow, Wyoming. The preferred candidate will reside in Saratoga or Laramie or be based within 60-75 minutes of Medicine Bow, WY. The current projected workload is approximately 120-160 hours per month and is subject to change.

    This position is FULL-TIME, BENEFITED for a period of up to two years beginning in Summer 2021, with the potential for additional hours or extended/expanded contract pending availability of work and satisfactory performance.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Search designated plots beneath wind turbines for bird and bat fatalities and collect data to measure bias in fatality.
    • Conduct raptor (including eagle) surveys with associated data entry/management.
    • Work is often performed alone at remote sites, with early morning hours and long days.

    REQUIREMENTS

    • Applicant must be able to demonstrate experience with identifying birds of the Mountain Western and should have previous experience with bird surveys.
    • Must have knowledge or be enrolled in Biology, Ecology, Environmental Science, Wildlife Studies, or related programs. 
    • Good verbal and written communication skills, computer knowledge, the ability to learn new skills, and attention to detail are important.
    • Must be able to follow all safety protocols to ensure safe navigation throughout the day.
    • Experience with topographic maps, aerial photos, GPS unit, range finder, and other field equipment.
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel.
    • Ability to work alone and maintain focus in an outdoor work environment.
    • Fieldwork requires bending, stooping, and walking.
    • Candidate will be expected to regularly interact with 2DOT project managers and occasionally with landowners.
    • Weather conditions such as high winds, prolonged exposure to intense sunlight, and hot and/or cold temperatures, and high humidity are common.
    • Early mornings and/or late evenings are required. Limited weekend and holiday work may be required and will be paid at a rate 1.5 times your regular pay.
    • The daily field workload is 8 -12 hours.
    • Valid driver's license required. 2DOT will provide a company vehicle, or mileage will be reimbursed for your travel to the work area to access the work truck.
    • After an offer of employment is accepted, the candidate must successfully pass a pre-employment background check, drug screening, and a DMV records check that meets 2DOT's minimum criteria to operate a motor vehicle on behalf of the company.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

    • Bachelor's degree or higher-level education and 1-2 seasons experience with avian or biological surveys is desired; experience with large birds (raptors) is preferred.
    • GPS and mapping experience is preferred.
    • The ability to pass UTV safety class and operate a UTV safely at minimal speeds is preferred.

    PAY RANGE/BONUS STRUCTURE

    • Pay range is $16-20 per hour, including full health benefits and/or ancillary benefits.
    • Pay is dependent on experience and willingness to commit to the entire project. 
    • Eligible for signing and performance bonus upon meeting project requirements and safety protocol.
    • Referral bonus of  $500 - 1,000 bonus paid to staff referring a friend, colleague, or anyone in your network who is hired by 2DOT.
    • 2DOT provides incentives to staff who work together to reduce their footprint (carpooling, etc.).
    • 2DOT provides a boot allowance for employees up to $120.
