    RESEARCH STATISTICIAN, STRATEGY CONSULTING PRACTICE

    • Developing an investment strategy for a national foundation to enhance the digital learning ecosystem and improve postsecondary outcomes for students of color, first-generation students, and poverty-affected students
    • Conducting commercial diligence for financial and strategic investors acquiring K-12, postsecondary, and corporate training businesses

    POSITION

    Tyton Partners' strategy consulting practice is seeking a Research Statistician to interpret, manage, and analyze proprietary survey data that project teams collect – examples include faculty and administrator attitudes towards digital learning, learning outcomes for K-12 students during COVID, and institutional approaches to developmental education. As a Research Statistician, you will work with project teams on how to best organize and interpret large data sets to drive actionable insights and create visualizations that successfully communicate findings internally and externally. In addition to supporting project teams, you will be the statistical hub of the organization and have opportunities to educate your teammates and improve processes across the firm.  

    This is an ideal position for someone who has demonstrated experience using data analysis methods, has a proven ability to drive business results with data-based insights, and has a passion for discovering solutions hidden in large data sets. 

    A Research Statistician's primary responsibilities include:  

    • Developing and implementing data analyses, data collection systems and other strategies that optimize statistical efficiency and quality 
    • Consulting with project teams to identify research needs and opportunities to leverage data to answer those questions  
    • Identifying, aggregating, and reporting on key research data points to create valuable metrics and analysis 
    • Participating in study design, interpreting data, and analyzing results using advanced statistical techniques 
    • Maintaining ownership of data integrity, quality controls, and reports using various software applications. Ensuring data is consistent and accurate 
    • Drawing conclusions from analysis, presenting results, and advocating for proposed next steps to key decision makers 
    • Identifying, analyzing, and interpreting trends or patterns in complex data sets

     

    DESIRED STATISTICAL SKILLS: 

    • Experience in advanced quantitative methods and statistical techniques 
    • Superior analytical, quantitative, and problem-solving skills with the ability to collect, organize, analyze, and disseminate significant amounts of information 
    • Demonstrated experience manipulating large, complicated data sets using a variety of software applications including SSPS, R and/or Python 
    • Experience using business intelligence and survey tools (e.g., Tableau, Qualtrics) 
    • Ability to communicate and influence effectively, both verbally and by presenting data and information in a compelling way 
    • Ability to explain statistical techniques and considerations to non-statisticians

     

    DESIRED NON-STATISTICAL SKILLS: 

    • Drive to learn and master new technologies and techniques 
    • Ability to take ownership of multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment, with a commitment to excellence and accuracy 
    • Demonstrated leadership abilities and experience working in teams 
    • Proficiency in Microsoft applications (e.g., Excel, PowerPoint)

     

    QUALIFICATIONS: 

    • At least two years of work relevant experience or a relevant degree 
    • Master's degree or PhD in educational research or related fields, such as, Statistics, Mathematics, Data Science, Quantitative Methods or another quantitative field
    • Interest and experience in the education sector is strongly preferred, especially prior experience in learning analytics and research as it related to learning outcomes and student success
