    Do you believe in the importance of effective court administration and its impact on the administration of justice? Do you want to help lead one of the most dynamic organizations in the federal judiciary?  The Office of the Circuit Executive is the operational and administrative arm of the Judicial Council of the United States Courts for the Ninth Circuit, and is seeking a talented Deputy Circuit Executive to join our team. 

    REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES

    • Assist the Circuit Executive in identifying needs; conducting studies; proactively developing and implementing innovative policies; providing training, public information and human resources support; coordinating facilities and technology projects; and advising the Judicial Council on procedural and ethical matters
    • Provide advice to the Circuit Executive and the Chief Circuit Judge, as requested, regarding office management and policy. Identify and implement enhancements to the delivery of services to judges, court unit executives and others within the Circuit's court units;
    • Provide staff support to the Chief Circuit Judge and the Judicial Council of the Ninth Circuit. 
    • Supervise and assist in the implementation of policy decisions and initiatives of the Chief Circuit Judge and the Circuit Executive by the Assistant Circuit Executives and the chairs of council committees;
    • Supervise the overall functioning of the operations and administration of the office in consultation with the Circuit Executive; this includes supervising and supporting the Assistant Circuit Executives in their program and personnel responsibilities;
    • In collaboration with office employees and teams, develop organizational goals and establish priorities, metrics, and desired outcomes for project programs;
    • Represent the circuit at public meetings or with external groups, as requested;
    • Manage the budget, procurement and fiscal management aspects of the office;
    • Act on behalf of the Circuit Executive, or Assistant Circuit Executives, when required.

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS     

    A minimum of six years of progressively responsible administrative, professional or legal experience in the above representative duties and:

    • Strong management skills; demonstrated, proactive, problem-solving approach; mature and decisive judgment; ability to handle matters discreetly, confidentially, and with unquestioned integrity; lead by example and be willing to understand court culture as a precursor to promoting positive change management; show initiative and flexibility; excellent communication and interpersonal skills; and knowledge of judiciary policies and procedures  
    • Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university is required; a graduate level degree in law, judicial, public, or business administration and federal judicial administrative and/or operational experience is highly desired.

    TOTAL REWARDS AND WORK-LIFE BALANCE

    Salary: $175,460 to $176,900 (JSP 16)  

    Time off: 13 vacation days; 13 sick leave days; 10 paid holidays. Vacation days increase to 20 days after 3 years and 26 days after 15 years.
