    Are you passionate about the right to high quality indigent criminal defense? Do you want to apply your knowledge and experience in criminal law to promote the administration of justice in the federal courts? The Office of the Circuit Executive, United States Courts for the Ninth Circuit, is seeking a talented Case Managing Attorney to join our team.

    REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES

    Case Budgeting and Case Resources: work with CJA counsel and federal district courts to fund high quality, cost-effective representation in complex criminal cases, capital cases, and capital habeas cases; work with CJA counsel in identifying litigation resources; assist counsel in coordinating shared resources in complex cases, especially management of electronic discovery; establish and maintain productive relationships with judges, CJA attorneys, and district court administrative staff; foster effective communication between CJA attorneys and district court judges and administrative staff regarding CJA matters.

    Training: facilitate the delivery of training for CJA Attorneys and Judges about the best practices of the criminal defense profession and current judiciary CJA policy; ensure that CJA panel attorneys have knowledge of and access to litigation resources and how to fund them; support district CJA Resource Counsel and Supervisory Attorneys; assist in developing mentorship programs and recruitment strategies. 

    Policy Development: apply knowledge of criminal defense best practices to assist with the creation and implementation of judicial policy that supports a system of high-quality, cost-effective indigent defense; assist with implementation of Cardone Report recommendations; work with districts to update CJA Plans; work with district courts in identifying and resolving local systemic barriers to cost-effective, high quality representation.

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

    A Juris Doctor (JD) degree (or equivalent) and admission to practice before the highest court of a State, Territory, Commonwealth, or possession of the United States are required.  Also required is at least five years of experience consisting of criminal defense and/or capital habeas representation including experience and knowledge of billing practices and staff management. Finally, thorough knowledge of criminal litigation strategies and processes is required, especially in complex criminal cases, capital prosecutions, or capital habeas corpus.

    TOTAL REWARDS AND WORK-LIFE BALANCE

    Salary*: Depending on qualifications and experience, $101,721 to $165,384 (CL 30)

    CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
