    ABOUT THE LIBRARY

    The Ninth Circuit headquarters library and the administrative staff are located in San Francisco. In addition, we have 21 satellite library branches throughout the Circuit to serve the information needs of over 400 circuit, district, bankruptcy, and magistrate judges. We also serve approximately 5,000 employees of court units throughout the Circuit.

    ABOUT THE ROLE

    The Library Technician works in the headquarters library in San Francisco and supports the Librarian by performing technical, operational, and customer service work for the purpose of maintaining a well-organized library system that is used by both internal and external customers.

    REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES

    Collection Maintenance: 

    • Maintain collections, including relocating library materials, shelving, and filing materials.
    • Process new books and library materials.
    • Maintain and ensure accuracy of circulation records.
    • Complete library binding operations.
    • Perform cataloging and classification tasks and online searching using national standards.
    • Organize, scan, and index archival documents.

    Reference: 

    • Search databases to identify sources of information or to answer specific questions.
    • As Interlibrary Loan Officer, the library technician will conduct online searches using national bibliographic databases to arrange for interlibrary loans.
    • Retrieve items for, and deliver items throughout the library and other court units.
    • Other duties and projects as assigned.

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

    • A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and a minimum of one year of specialized library experience, preferably in a law library setting.
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, such as Word, Excel, Teams, and Outlook.
    • Ability to handle occasional moderate to heavy physical activity.
    • Ability to travel throughout the circuit to assist in other libraries.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS

    • Aptitude for performing functions requiring a high degree of accuracy and careful attention to detail.
    • Experience working with people at all levels; effective oral and written communication skills.

    Salary*: Depending on qualifications and experience, $52,145 - $84,732 (CL 25)
