    Do you thrive working in a team environment? Do you strive for excellence in Human Resources program offerings? The U.S. Courts of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit is seeking a dynamic Human Resources Assistant to join our team.

    ABOUT THE ROLE

    This is an excellent opportunity for a recent college graduate to gain experience in the Human Resources field.  The position reports to the Human Resources Director in the San Francisco Clerk's Office and assists a team of 3 senior members with the processing of payroll and benefits for new hires, exiting employees, and current staff.  Primary duties include providing general office support, assisting with recruitment and orientation activities, and working on special projects.  Other duties include running reports as needed and updating a variety of court directories (employee, functional and emergency).  The successful candidate will be cheerful under pressure and highly detail-oriented, with excellent follow-through.  Flexibility, initiative, discretion, and the ability to work well under pressure are essential attributes.

    REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES

    • Perform reception duties and provide general office support:  Answer the main Human Resources phone line, direct calls, and respond to inquiries; file forms and other documents.
    • Update directory information.
    • Provide employment verifications to banks, bar associations, etc.
    • Maintain a library of frequently used forms; create and edit fillable PDF forms as needed.
    • Work on projects as assigned.
    • Create personnel files for all employees.
    • Update personnel records in the performance management system.
    • Email personnel actions submitted to the Administrative Office by court HR staff.
    • Copy and collate training and seminar materials.
    • Assist recruitment with sorting applicants, phone screens, scheduling interviews, correspondence, and reference checks.
    • Assist with onboarding and exiting employees.
    • Assist employees with benefit and payroll questions.

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS    

    High School graduation or equivalent, plus two years of general work experience in the above representative duties and:

    • Working knowledge of Windows-based and browser-based applications; proficiency and experience with email, word processing applications and Adobe Acrobat.
    • Ability to work independently or in a team environment; demonstrated, proactive, problem-solving approach and critical thinking skills
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; strong customer service ethic; ability to understand and apply established rules and procedures; flexibility, strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS   

    • Bachelor's degree preferred
    • Prior legal experience, familiarity with legal concepts and documents.
    • Experience with data entry (databases, spreadsheets)

    Salary*: Depending on qualifications and experience, $43,962 to $71,454 (CL 23)
