    ABOUT THE LIBRARY

    The Ninth Circuit headquarters library and the administrative staff are located in San Francisco. In addition, we have 21 satellite library branches throughout the Circuit to serve the information needs of over 400 circuit, district, bankruptcy, and magistrate judges. We also serve approximately 5,000 employees of court units throughout the Circuit.

    ABOUT THE ROLE

    The Law Book Procurement Assistant  works in the headquarters library in San Francisco and assists more experienced law book procurement staff by creating and managing electronic documents, communicating with vendors, and creating purchase orders in order to provide court librarians, judges and unit executives with the legal research materials they require to fulfill their duties. 

    REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES

    • Creates, edits and manages PDF documents to facilitate a paperless procurement workflow.
    • Obtains pricing, quotes and other necessary procurement information from law book vendors.
    • Communicates with library staff regarding law book purchase requests.
    • Prepares purchase orders for law book materials.
    • Emails purchase orders to law book vendors.
    • Other duties and projects as assigned.

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

    • High school diploma or equivalent.
    • Minimum two years general office or clerical experience (education beyond high school level may be substituted for work experience)

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS

    • One year law book procurement experience
    • One year library experience
    • Experience with vendor contact via telephone and email
    • Aptitude for performing functions requiring a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
    • Skill in the use of Windows-based personal computers and basic office applications software including Adobe Acrobat.
    • Skill in the use of standard office equipment.
    • Effective oral and written communication skills.

    TOTAL REWARDS AND WORK-LIFE BALANCE

    Salary*: Depending on qualifications and experience, $47,200 - $76,733 (CL 24). Promotion potential to Law Book Procurement Specialist (CL 25 - $52,145 - $84,732) without competition within the Ninth Circuit Library system.

    Time off: 13 vacation days; 13 sick leave days; 10 paid holidays
