  • Responsibilities

    Develop and produce steel designs and contract documents for new and retrofit building/structural projects including, but not limited to, schools, offices, sporting facilities, hospitals and medical office buildings.

    Required Skills

     

    • Calculate cost and determine financial feasibility of project based on analysis of collected data.
    • Create computer models using preliminary drawings and/or design criteria.
    • Develop and draw by hand project design details for construction.
    • Develop gravity and lateral frame solutions.
    • Produce safe and efficient structural engineering solutions.
    • Participate in field visits to observe SidePlate connection fabrication and erection.
    • Prepare structural calculations and drawings for submission to Engineers of Record and Authorities having Jurisdiction.
    • Review shop drawings and requests for information (RFI's).
    • Review, evaluate and correct structural computer models provided to SidePlate by Engineer of Record, as required.
    • Participate in Fabricator Kickoff Meetings.
    • Train Design Engineers on how to perform their essential duties and lead by example.
    • Understand project schedules and deliver contract documents on time.

    Required Experience

    Education/Experience: 

    • Four year degree from an accredited college or university in Civil, Structural, or Architectural Engineering. MS degree preferred. 

    • Excellent understanding of statics, dynamics, and structural load path.

    • Three to five years of experience in structural engineering.

    • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret applicable building codes, general business periodicals, professional journals, technical publications, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

    • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as calculus, algebraic formulas, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, and ratios.

    COMPUTER SKILLS: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft Windows and Office and proficient skills in Word and Excel, as well as various structural engineering software platforms, including RAM, ETABS, and SAP to analyze.

    ORAL AND WRITTEN COMMUNICATION SKILLS: Speaks clearly and persuasively in positive or negative situations; Listens and gets clarification; Responds well to questions; Demonstrates group presentation skills; Participates in meetings.  Writes clearly and informatively; Edits work for spelling and grammar; Varies writing style to meet needs; Presents numerical data effectively; Able to read and interpret written information, as well as professionally answer the office phone and transfer calls.

    CERTIFICATES & LICENSES: Licensed as a Professional Engineer-if the employee is subject to license requirements or professional development hours as stipulated by a state agency now or in the future, compliance is required.

    OTHER QUALIFICATIONS: Full Time, Monday-Friday, up to 10% of the total work time spent traveling to fabricator shops and project sites as necessary.
