    Classification: Level 1 / Class Code 2211 / Full-Time / Non-Exempt / Benefited / Represented

    Hiring Salary Rate: $17.00 per hour

    THE ROLE

    Under the direct supervision of the Parking Garage Manager, the Parking Cashier/Attendant is responsible for manning a designated booth at the parking entrance/exit during established hours of operations; directing parkers to appropriate parking areas; collecting parking fees; providing general information to student, staff and faculty parkers as well as the general public; monitoring/patrolling the parking lot to verify valid parking permits and ensuring cars are properly parked in designated spaces to ensure safety and the smooth flow of traffic.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    Typical duties and responsibilities consist of, but are not limited to, the following:

    • Collects parking fees from parkers based upon established fee schedules;
    • Clocks out parking tickets and records amount due and collected in the computerized point-of-sales system;
    • Processes credit card payments and secures cardholder's signature for payment;
    • Issues payment receipts and exit tickets to parkers;
    • Monitors the capacity of the lot to ensure monthly parkers are accommodated; 
    • When the lot is full, places “Lot Full” signs in view; regularly verifies number of vehicles parked and reconciles to the parking software database;
    • Regularly verifies all cars are parked with a valid permit and notifies the Parking Garage Manager when permits are invalid;
    • Regularly communicates with the Parking Garage Supervisor when there are safety issues, mechanical and/or technical malfunctions of equipment and systems (i.e., elevators, parking systems, point-of-sales);
    • Regularly monitors the lot for suspicious activity and reports such activity to Safety and Security and/or 911.  Monitoring is done via security camera, on foot by walking around the garage and/or by using the electrical vehicle;
    • Closes out his/her shift on the point-of-sales system settling and balancing credit card and cash payments to the shift sales reports;
    • Prepares cash and check sales for deposit to the bank;
    • Prepares credit card payments for deposit and deposits with Fiscal Services;
    • Assists armored car service with daily deposit pick ups;
    • Maintains a change bank ensuring adequate change funds are available and requests change orders as needed with the Parking Garage Manager;

    REQUIREMENTS

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

    • Must be knowledgeable of parking garage and/or parking lot operations; cash handling procedures and customer service practices;
    • Must be able to:
    • o count coins and currency and give change;
    • o operate a computerized point-of-sales system;
    • o operate a 10-key calculator;
    • o balance and reconcile cash, checks and credit cards received during this shift to the point-of-sales reports; 
    • o move quickly and safely from the attendant booth to the entrance/exit gate to assist parkers upon entry/exit from the garage;
    • o speak and write English fluently;
    • o follow written and oral instructions;
    • o provide professional and courteous customer service;
    • o safely drive and operate an electrical vehicle similar to a golf cart.
