    CLASSIFICATION: Level 1 / Class Code 9995 / Part-Time / Non-Exempt / Represented / Contracted

    HIRING SALARY RANGE: $25.64 per hour (Commensurate with Qualifications)

    THE ROLE

    Under the supervision of the Director of Student Services, the 20 hour/week Care Advocate will provide trauma-informed and culturally competent advocacy and support services to UC Hastings students who experience any form of sexual misconduct, including rape, sexual assault, domestic violence, dating violence, stalking, and sexual harassment.  Responsibilities include confidential counseling, crisis intervention, victim advocacy, educational and prevention programming, and on-campus and off-campus liaising with community partners.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    Typical duties and responsibilities consist of, but are not limited to, the following:

    • Serve as a confidential advocate and case manager for students, which includes helping them navigate the Title IX process and liaising with the Title IX Coordinator, Hastings faculty and staff, and Student Health Services' medical providers. 
    • Provide crisis intervention and immediate aid, options, advocacy referrals, information, and counseling to students who experience sexual misconduct.  
    • Provide emergency support services, which may require on-campus or local off-campus presence during non-business hours at Hastings facilities, the hospital, law enforcement agencies, or court houses for extended periods of time in response to critical experiences of sexual misconduct.
    • Provide medical, as well as criminal and civil justice, advocacy and support services, including accompaniment to medical exams or appointments with medical providers, the making of police reports and interviews with law enforcement.
    • Cultivate relationships with and serve as a liaison to community partners, such as UCSF Police Department, SFWAR, the Trauma Recovery Center at SF General, and other community-based organizations.
    • In collaboration with the Title IX Coordinator, develop and provide outreach, education, and training on issues related to sexual misconduct to the campus community, including students, faculty, and staff. 
    • Other related duties as assigned.

    SPECIFIC FEATURES OF EMPLOYMENT:

    • Physical and Environmental Factors:  Responsibilities may involve extended periods of sitting or working at a keyboard; commuting throughout San Francisco at various times of the day and night; working flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
    • Sensory Factors:  Responsibilities may involve exposure to sight and smell of bodily fluids and visible injuries, as well as listening and responding to intimate descriptions of sexual violence, crime, or abuse.
    • Interpersonal Factors:  Responsibilities may involve being in contact with a variety of individuals, including those who are angry or violent; those with known or unknown physical or mental health conditions or diseases; or those under the influence of legal or illegal substances. 
    • Working Hours:  20 hours per week, which will include a combination of on-campus office hours, training development and presentations, and on-call hours.  This position is a nine-month academic term from August 2019 through May 2020, with an option to renew for the following academic term. 
    • Clinical Supervision Benefit: If the selected candidate is a pre-licensed Associate Marriage and Family Therapist (AMFT) or Associate Clinical Social Worker (ASW), a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist who is authorized by the BBC to supervise will provide clinical supervision to the selected candidate, so hours worked can be counted toward relevant licensure or certification programs.

    REQUIREMENTS

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

    • Bachelor's degree in social work, counseling, or related field.
    • Certification by the State of California as both a Sexual Assault Crisis Counselor and a Domestic Violence Counselor preferred. If not certified prior to hire date, employee will have 6 months to complete certification as part of employment contingency.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

    • Demonstrated knowledge of support and reporting options for survivors, including Title IX policies and higher education best practices.
    • Demonstrated ability to remain calm, respond to crisis and emergency situations, and handle graphic and sensitive situations.
    • Ability to work independently, make decisions in accordance with established policies and procedures, and maintain confidentiality.
    • Excellent written and oral communication skills. 
    • Experience developing training workshops and public speaking. 
    • Well organized and detail oriented, with an ability to multi-task and prioritize competing demands. 
    • Demonstrated ability to work with people of various ethnic, cultural and socio-economic backgrounds, sexual orientation, and gender identities.
    • Experience in survivor advocacy, sexual assault first-responder, crisis intervention and counseling.
