    PART-TIME GRADUATE RESEARCH FELLOW 

    UCSF/UC HASTINGS CONSORTIUM ON LAW, SCIENCE & HEALTH POLICY

    CLASSIFICATION: Level 1 / Class Code 2048 / Non-Exempt / Part-Time

    HIRING SALARY RANGE: $25/hour (commensurate with qualifications)

    THE ROLE

    The Graduate Research Fellow provides core programmatic support to the UCSF/UC Hastings Consortium on Law, Science & Health Policy. The successful candidate will be a warm, friendly, and people-oriented self-starter with excellent communication and interpersonal skills; be punctual; have a desire to learn; and have the ability to prioritize assignments and produce output effectively and efficiently. The Graduate Research Fellow should be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment--both independently and as part of a team--and have the organizational skills and judgment necessary to establish priorities and meet multiple deadlines. The Graduate Research Fellow reports to the Executive Director of the Consortium and is immediately supervised by the Program Manager of the Consortium. In addition, the Graduate Research Fellow is expected to work collaboratively and effectively with Consortium fellows, research assistants, and affiliated faculty. This is a temporary, part-time position, hours are flexible, and job responsibilities will be conducted remotely.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    Typical duties and responsibilities consist of, but are not limited to, assisting the Consortium's Executive Director and Program Manager with the following:

    • Conducting research projects, such as updating legal resource guides, developing educational/promotional materials, and other project-based research as needed;
    • Providing outreach to and tracking of students and alumni, which may include developing a database, contacting alumni, and designing a survey;
    • Outreach and Communications activities, including drafting and distributing correspondence and program materials using MyHastings, Canvas, icontact, Canvas, Microsoft Outlook, the Consortium website and social media; 
    • Supporting the Program Manager in event coordination as needed;
    • Miscellaneous administrative duties as necessary to assist with the smooth functioning of the Consortium and its numerous programs; and other duties as assigned.

    REQUIREMENTS

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

    • J.D. Required
    • Background in public health, health law, or health policy preferred
    • Experience providing core support and coordination in an academic, nonprofit, or small firm environment preferred
    • Requires a high degree of individual initiative, discretion, diplomacy and mature judgment;
    • Must be a self-starter with demonstrated dependability and must also work well as a team member.

     

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

    • Excellent verbal and writing skills, with high attention to detail, accuracy, and presentation quality;
    • Excellent administrative and office support skills; ability to move and learn quickly in a fast paced environment and meet multiple deadlines effectively with good judgment with respect to project prioritization and time management; must be punctual;
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite of Excel, Word, and PowerPoint; familiarity with social media tools; comfort with using or learning a variety of online tools such as Box, Doodle Polls, icontact, and Ad Astra.
    • Proven ability to work effectively both independently and as a team player;
    • Ability to be proactive, creative, and solution/results-oriented.
