    THE ROLE

    The Center for Innovation (C4i) at the University of California Hastings College of the Law seeks a Coordinator for the Startup Legal Garage.  The Startup Legal Garage is the flagship program of C4i, an experiential learning program that matches law students with volunteer attorney supervisors to perform real-world work for real early-stage companies.  Services the Garage provides include incorporations, funding, equity splits, cap tables, founders' agreements and more. 

    The Coordinator will help manage the program, network with startups, founders, and attorney supervisors, help oversee the student projects, and perform day-to-day managerial work of monitoring email, managing CRM and client relationships, and keeping track of student hours and workloads.  This is an excellent job for a recent college graduate considering going to law school.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    Typical duties and responsibilities consist of, but are not limited to, the following:

    • Networking with startups, law firms, business schools, startup accelerators, and SLG and Hastings alumni

    • Researching, interviewing, and selecting startups to join the program

    • Reaching out to and recruiting supervising attorneys

    • Maintaining the Startup Legal Garage's CRM and contact networking information

    • Reviewing and selecting student associates and assigning students to startup teams

    • Assisting programming, including organizing pitch competitions, monitoring workflows, and maintaining critical SLG documents

    • Assisting the Director of the Startup Legal Garage with managerial tasks

    REQUIREMENTS

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

    • B.A. or B.S. degree

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES.     

    • Experience with the startup environment and startups preferred 
    • Excellent networking and interpersonal skills
    • Must be energetic, articulate, detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills and able to thrive in a fast-paced environment;
    • Must have excellent oral and written communication skills, including grammar, spelling and punctuation;
    • As with many startups, the Center offices are set up as an open, cooperative workspace, rather than individual offices.  The Assistant Director must be comfortable with that working environment.
