    TEMPORARY PARALEGAL

    GENERAL COUNSEL'S OFFICE

    ~40 hours/week; ~1-2 month assignment

    THE ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    The General Counsel's Office is seeking a temporary paralegal, preferably with experience handling California Public Records Act requests, to provide immediate support.

    The specific tasks assigned will include the following:

    • Examines, analyzes, processes, and responds to California Public Records Act requests
    • Tracks requests as they come in and logs and monitors progress
    • Assesses scope of request, identifies and contacts records custodian, collects responsive documents, conducts review to determine disclosability, performs redactions, prepares documents for release, and issues responses to request

    PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS

    • Demonstrated strong ability to analyze complex information or procedures, define problem or objective, formulate logical and objective conclusions, and recognize alternatives and their implications.
    • Experience with interpreting and applying complex and competing privacy and freedom of information laws, such as the California Public Records Act and Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act.
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Strong organization and time management skills to prioritize a high volume workload with competing deadlines, follow through, and attention to detail.
    • Demonstrated ability to work independently and follow through to completion with little or no supervision.
    • Ability to use discretion and maintain all confidentiality.
    • Experience working with confidential information and sensitive data, and exercising discretion in dealing with confidential or potentially sensitive topics.
    • Strong command of common computer application programs.
