    UCSF/UC HASTINGS CONSORTIUM ON LAW, SCIENCE & HEALTH POLICY

    Classification: Level 1 / Class Code 2038 / Full-Time / Exempt / Benefited

    Hiring Salary Range: $55,000 - $65,000 annually (commensurate with qualifications) 

    ABOUT THE UCSF/UC HASTINGS CONSORTIUM ON LAW, SCIENCE & HEALTH POLICY

    UC Hastings College of the Law is home to a top-ranked health law program, which is supported by the UCSF/UC Hastings Consortium on Law, Science & Health Policy (“Consortium”), an inter-professional initiative of UCSF and UC Hastings College of the Law. At Hastings, the Consortium coordinates health law curriculum, clinics/externships, events, research, and policy initiatives, and advises law students interested in the field.

    THE ROLE

    The Health Policy Researcher will develop and conduct research and writing projects as well as seek and develop grants for The Source on Healthcare Price and Competition and the UCSF/UC Hastings Consortium on Law, Science, and Health Policy. The Health Policy Researcher must be able to manage multiple projects simultaneously and advance research independently while being an integral part of a highly collaborative team.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    Typical duties and responsibilities consist of, but are not limited to, the following:

    Primary duties include conducting legal and policy research, writing blog posts and issue briefs for publication on The Source's website, preparing reports and papers for publication as a white paper or in academic journals and law reviews, developing grant proposals for soft funding from external foundations, conducting additional research to support Consortium and Source projects, and consulting as required.

    The Health Policy Researcher will:

    • Report to the Managing and Executive Editors of The Source and the Senior Health Policy Researcher about publication topics, deadlines, and research projects;
    • Draft, edit, and track Source research projects, including but not limited to white papers, academic publications, law reviews, blog posts, website updates, and presentations;
    • Track, summarize, and analyze data on legislation and litigation related to healthcare price and competition for publication on The Source's website;
    • Participate actively in all Source-related meetings;
    • Design, prepare, and execute well-defined research proposals;
    • Assist and participate in developing grant proposals for soft funding from external foundations;
    • Clearly and concisely explain research findings to foundations and policymakers to identify opportunities for improvement in health policy at the state and federal level.

    REQUIREMENTS

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

    • J.D. required

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

    • Demonstrated experience and interest in health law or health policy;
    • Must have excellent oral and written communication skills;
    • Excellent independent research and writing skills;
    • Highly organized with ability to conduct and manage work independently;
    • Ability to manage several projects simultaneously and under pressure of deadlines;
    • Strong candidates for the position will be expected to work constructively on their own and with others, contribute ideas, and work productively with outside individuals and organizations.
