POSITION SUMMARY: THE NEW YORK CITY DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION is the largest school system in the nation, with nearly 1.1 million students and approximately 135,000 employees, including almost 80,000 teachers and an annual budget of $24B+. The Department of Education (DOE) is committed to accelerating achievement in a system of 1,800+ great schools. New York City schools have driven the DOE's work in adopting rigorous curricula for all schools, starting new small schools, and improving all schools to increase educational options for students and transforming the structure and culture of the Department of Education to encourage educational excellence and the work necessary to support that goal.
The Deputy High School Superintendent (DHSS) will serve as the key instructional support for Superintendents. The DHSS will support the High School Superintendent in improving the performance of district Principals with respect to educational effectiveness and school performance. The DHSS will conduct site visits and work with Principals and instructional staff to address areas of improvement, concern, or focus identified by the High School Superintendent or other evaluators. The Deputy High School Superintendent may also act as the High School Superintendent’s designee for evaluative visits, and will maintain district or borough-wide portfolios of up to 65 schools. KEY RELATIONSHIPS: High School Superintendent, the Division of the First Deputy Chancellor, Division of Teaching and Learning, Office of Curriculum, Instruction and Professional Learning, and the Office of School Quality.

Required Skills Required Experience
Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Supply Chain Management, Finance, Business Administration or equivalent
10+ years of HR, Finance, Legal or Real Estate experience (direct or in a supporting organization such as Procurement) with a minimum of 5 years third party management experience
Exemplary negotiation skills in a robust and large corporate procurement environment
Demonstrated ability to build strategic partnerships across multiple organizations and with vendors at the highest levels
Accomplished in holding a team accountable to achieve measurable results, management experience preferred
Project management experience required with ability to multi-task with high volume throughput
Able to travel occasionally as needed to support business requirements
