    DIVISION/DEPARTMENT INFORMATION

     

    The Department of Chemistry at the Queens campus of St. John's University located in New York City is seeking applicants for a full-time tenure track faculty member in the field of Analytical Chemistry at the rank of assistant professor to begin in fall 2020.

    While the primary focus is on the undergraduate program, the Department of Chemistry offers both the B.S. and M.S. degrees.  We have twelve tenured faculty members all of whom maintain active research and scholarly activities. The department graduates about twenty ACS-certified B.S. chemistry majors and five M.S. students per year. There is an active ACS-student Chapter and seminar program with weekly meetings. The department is well equipped with modern instrumentation, including a 400 MHz NMR, ICP, GC-MS, GC-FID, UV-vis, fluorescence, LC-MS, HPLC, and FTIR instruments.     RESPONSIBILITIES

     

    Successful candidates will be expected to: i) develop an independent and vigorous research program, ii) demonstrate a strong commitment to excellence in teaching chemistry at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, iii) engage in service to the University and community.  Teaching will primarily be in undergraduate and graduate courses in analytical chemistry along with general chemistry.     QUALIFICATIONS

     

    Applicants should have a Ph.D. in chemistry.  The qualified candidate will have a proven record of research accomplishments in analytical chemistry or a closely related field, including post-doctoral research, industrial, or equivalent experiences. The development of a research program involving undergraduate and master's degree students is expected and strongly supported.  The candidate will have an ability to teach and develop courses in the analytical chemistry discipline.
