    The Associate Director for Outcomes Assessment & Community Partnerships will work under the direction of the Executive Director for Mission and the Vincentian Institute for Social Action (VISA).      In collaboration with the Academic Service-Learning (AS-L) program, the Ozanam Scholars Program, and VISA’s Faculty Research Consortium (FRC), the Associate Director will further the University’s Mission through the development and support of outcomes-based, community-based research and assessment in the areas of poverty and social justice.

     

     

    ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR OF COMMUNITY BASED RESEARCH AND ASSESSMENT 

     

     

    The Associate Director for Outcomes Assessment & Community Partnerships will work under the direction of the Executive Director for Mission and the Vincentian Institute for Social Action (VISA).  In collaboration with the Academic Service-Learning (AS-L) program, the Ozanam Scholars Program, and VISA’s Faculty Research Consortium (FRC), the Associate Director will further the University’s Mission through the development and support of outcomes-based, community-based research and assessment in the areas of poverty and social justice.

     

     

    RESPONSIBILITIES (GENERAL):

      

    • Serve as the primary research contact between VISA and established/potential community partners, regularly communicating with site supervisors to identify poverty and social justice research opportunities for students and faculty;

    • Ensure accurate upkeep and maintenance of the online volunteer management platform   (i.e. GivePulse) in order to provide ongoing assistance & support to all Vincentian service-related areas of the University (i.e. AS-L, Ozanam Scholars, Campus Ministry); provide training and assistance as needed to various departments to facilitate use of online system;

    • Collaborate with all areas of VISA (Ozanam Scholars, AS-L, Community Partnerships, FRC) and the Office of Institutional Research to prepare the Comprehensive Annual Report, summarizing major highlights, accomplishments, and areas for potential growth/expansion;

    • Serve as VISA’s primary liaison to the Office of Grants and Sponsored Research in supporting the growth of student and faculty research in the areas of poverty and social justice;

    • Provide daily supervision to the Assistant Director for Community Partnerships, including collaboration in building and assessing community partner relationships; addressing student and faculty concerns about community partners, when appropriate; and ongoing guidance, advisement and performance review;

    • Represent VISA at campus events and/or University-wide committees as requested;

     

     

    RESPONSIBILITIES (FACULTY RESEARCH CONSORTIUM – FRC):

     

    • Collaborate with the FRC to identify faculty members interested in conducting community-based research and/or research in the areas of poverty and social justice and provide assistance through the Institutional Review Board (IRB) application/approval process and in communicating with community partners;

    • Participate in monthly FRC meetings to provide updates on research and assessment through AS-L and the Ozanam Scholars Program, and support University-wide Vincentian research initiatives (i.e. Research Month);

    • Collaborate with the FRC Chair and FRC members to develop and implement faculty workshops on connecting Vincentian service to outcomes-based, community-based research;

    • Research and promote opportunities for faculty to publish and present at conferences, with a particular emphasis on supporting the online Journal of Vincentian Social Action (JoVSA)

     

     

    RESPONSIBILITIES (OZANAM SCHOLARS PROGRAM):

     

    • Oversee implementation and evaluation of four-year student research model for Ozanam Scholars on the Queens and Staten Island campuses, including the development of protocols for student research and program evaluation;

    • Establish and maintain communication with faculty mentors and community partners to support and enhance Ozanam Scholar student research;

    • Plan and implement events and workshops in support of the Ozanam Scholar Program, including Research Month oral and poster presentations; Ozanam Scholar Capstone Defense; Ozanam Scholar Pitch Competition; and research & evaluation workshops;

    • Work with Ozanam Scholar team members to support student-scholar research activities during local, national and international service excursions (i.e. Ecuador, South Dakota);

    • Prepare, analyze and monitor data related to Ozanam Scholar recruitment and student performance to identify trends, best practices, and opportunities for improvement

     

    RESPONSIBILITIES (ACADEMIC SERVICE-LEARNING):

     

    • Collaborate with AS-L team to identify and assist faculty interested in conducting outcomes-based, community-based research as an outgrowth of AS-L projects;
    • In conjunction with the AS-L team, complete high-level annual and bi-annual program evaluations and reports (i.e. Dean’s Reports; student & faculty participation reports; community agency, faculty & student experience reports);

     

     

    QUALIFICATIONS:

     

    • Masters degree in data analysis, applied research, or a related field

    • 3+ years of conducting and managing research and evaluation, including outcomes-based research in community settings

    • Demonstrated commitment to the values of the St. John’s Catholic and Vincentian Mission, with particular attention to alleviate poverty and examine issues pertaining to social justice

    • Knowledge of and interest in social justice issues, in the areas of poverty, education, healthcare, hunger, and homelessness

    • Demonstrated experience in facilitating meetings with broad groups of stakeholders, including students, faculty, university administration and community partners

    • Demonstrated skills in research training and capacity building through practical assistance and mentoring

    • Demonstrated quantitative analytical skills, including use of Microsoft Excel, SPSS and skills in analyzing, interpreting and communicating information to a variety of stakeholders

    • Strong writing skills with established record of research article publications and scholarship

    • Student development experience

    • Willingness to travel nationally and internationally as needed

    • Willingness to work weekend and evening hours as needed
