    ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR OF ADMISSIONS & DIVERSITY INITIATIVES 

    SCHOOL OF LAW

      

    JOB SUMMARY: 

    The Associate Director reports to the Assistant Dean for Admissions & Recruitment and will spearhead student recruitment off-campus, focusing on increasing the diversity of the applicant pool, the admitted student population, and the entering 1L and transfer classes.  The Associate Director will focus on inclusive admissions practices, and a yield campaign that results in a diverse class. The Associate Director will also manage all aspects of marketing and communications for the JD Admissions Office, including developing our presence on new platforms. The Associate Director will share responsibility for reviewing 1L applications and serve as a personal admission counselor for approximately one-third of our applicant pool, including our students of color. The Associate Director will create a high school outreach program and manage a robust student ambassador program with a focus on diversity and affinity group outreach. 

      

    RESPONSIBILITIES:   

    • Oversee the Office of Admissions diversity, equity, and inclusion programs including the Law School’s fly-in program for students of color, the diversity-related admitted students events, and outreach to all HBCUs and HSIs.   

    • Manage advanced off-campus recruitment planning. Create and develop data analysis tools and metrics designed to measure the impact of various in-person and virtual events. Track applicant, admitted student, and matriculating student data to evaluate how well a recruiting strategy worked at the end of each cycle. Identify trends and gaps in recruitment and create long-term and short-term strategies to increase overall quality and diversity of the applicant pool.    

    • Travel extensively to represent the School of Law at a significant number of recruitment events. Make presentations and speak on panels. Suggest and implement new outreach efforts to meet prospective students, including students of color and other historically under-represented groups.   

    • Develop and lead the Law School’s high school outreach program with the intent to attract students of color and other historically under-represented groups to the Law School. Build relationships with schools, publicize visits, plan, execute and attend events.   

    • Manage marketing and communications strategy, oversee yearly communications calendar, and generally support all messaging on behalf of the Admissions Office. Lead strategy for online content, including blog, social media, webinars, and videos. Suggest new media and platforms to reach as diverse an applicant pool as possible. Maintain and update Admissions Office website. Serve as primary contact with Marketing Office on behalf of Admissions Office.   

    • Review and make recommendations on a significant portion of the applicant pool (25-30%), focusing on students of color.    

    • Serve as a personal admission counselor to approximately one-third of our applicant pool, including admitted students of color. Email, meet with, and arrange visits and tours. Serve as the point person to address all of their needs through the admissions cycle, including managing the travel stipend program to bring historically under-represented groups of students to campus to visit.   

    • Develop strategic messaging for individual applicants to personalize the post-admissions process and set goals to determine message effectiveness, including a post-admission microsite. Develop and maintain the metrics that will allow the office to evaluate the effectiveness of the yield communication plan and activities. Serve as a liaison to the Alumni Office and help match admitted students with alumni as part of a yield campaign, including matching our admitted students of color with our diverse alumni network.   

    • Recruit, manage and train a diverse group of student ambassadors. Conduct trainings twice a year. Track ambassador availability in spreadsheet or calendar form and make available to Admissions Office. Match admitted students with student organization contacts as part of a yield campaign, including affinity group outreach.   

    • Performs other duties as assigned.

     

      

    QUALIFICATIONS: 

    • Bachelor’s degree required; J.D., professional or advanced degree is preferred. 
    • Minimum of at least two years' admissions experience in higher education or legal experience, preferably with students of color or other historically under-represented groups. 
    • Possess excellent oral, written and technological skills (preferably experience in Banner system, ACES, Access database). Experience with Excel. 
    • Strong problem-solving skills. Advanced organizational, time management and process management skills. 
    • Demonstrated ability to manage large programs/projects and comfort working across high-functioning teams. 
    • The ability to use sound judgment in all situations and discretion with confidential data required. 
    • Extensive travel required (local and out-of-state) during the fall recruitment season. 
    • Occasional weekend and evening hours required. 
    • Valid U.S. driver’s license required.

    Required Skills Required Experience

  • Qualifications
    • Bachelor degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or discipline related to functional role with 7 – 10 years of relevant work experience.
    • A minimum of 2–3 years of direct experience managing teams in large multi-national, multi-platform messaging & collaboration environments.
    • Must have strong working knowledge of basic mail routing protocols and related technologies.
    • Must have strong working knowledge of cloud based collaboration platforms, preferably Google (or Office 365).
    • Must have experience with messaging platform upgrades, migrations and consolidations.
    • Must have strong working knowledge of networking and firewall technologies.
    • Proven abilities in project management, architectural design, systems administration and incident management.
    • Demonstrated ability to plan, organize and  manage Team and other resources required to successfully complete multi-disciplinary projects.
    • Strong customer service focus and the ability to effectively and appropriately communicate with peers, supervisors and executives.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    • Strong organizational skills and an ability to multi-task and effectively prioritize work.
