    RESEARCH ASSISTANT

The Bukhari Lab (at CCPS, St. John's University, NYC) is seeking a highly motivated Research Assistant in Computer Science.

    DESCRIPTION

Efficient strategies for accessing biomedical contents are crucial for the timely transfer of correct information from the scientific research community to peer investigators and interested individuals. Even though valuable information is embedded in online biomedical contents, it remains opaque to information retrieval and knowledge extraction search engines. It is mainly because most biomedical contents are unstructured with minor or no explicit machine-interpretable semantic (context-aware) markups or annotations. To overcome the challenges of biomedical information retrieval, our lab is developing out-of-the-box socio-technical systems. The successful candidate will research and develop biomedical content authoring and structured web publishing systems.

    REQUIREMENTS AND DESIRABLE SKILLS INCLUDE:

    • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science with 2+ years relevant experience; or Master's/PhD degree with 1+ years relevant experience. MS/Ph.D. candidates working in the Semantic web and biomedical informatics areas are highly encouraged to apply.
    • Expertise in implementing scalable web systems, any previous experience developing information systems using machine learning and semantic web technologies is a plus.
    • An inquiring mind, intense curiosity, interdisciplinary understanding, and strong desire to innovate in the areas of semantic web and biomedical informatics
    •  Excellent in scientific writing skills with publications record in semantic web and biomedical informatics

The position will be for a year and could be extended for another year based on the candidate's performance. To apply include your curriculum vitae with bibliography and GitHub link.
