    United Cerebral Palsy of Los Angeles, Ventura & Santa Barbara Counties (UCPLA) is hiring a REGISTERED NURSE (RN) to care for individuals with developmental disabilities. As an RN, you assess resident health problems and needs, develop and implement nursing care plans, maintain medical records, and administer nursing care to our residents. Working under the supervision of our Director of Health Services, you will have the unique opportunity to build your healthcare career and develop relationships with our residents.

    UCPLA knows that RNs are in high demand.  In making your choice about where you will practice your art, consider the following:

    • Our facilities are Intermediate Care Facilities (not SNFs) for the Developmentally Disabled, with both Habilitative (ICF/DD-H) and Nursing (ICF/DD-N) homes
    • Caregiver to client ratio does not exceed 1:5 and is sometimes as high as 1:1
    • Nursing caseload is 15-30
    • Our home sizes are small (6-bed and 15-bed)
    • At our long-term care facilities, you have opportunities to build relationships with people with developmental disabilities and a team of staff committed to service
    • Complex case management will keep you engaged and learning
    • High-acuity care is limited or prohibited by facility regulations
    • Our Immediate Care Facilities provide wound care per licensing requirements ranging from simple wounds only to a maximum of stage I pressure ulcers
    • Hospice care is very limited; when provided, it is done collaboratively with professional hospice care providers who come to our homes

    RN RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Provide direct RN assessment and care management of each resident minimum 1-1.5 hours per week
    • Quarterly nursing exam
    • Review and implement feeding plans
    • Provide complex care management and vital assessments
    • Develop health care plan
    • Supervise LVN clinical responsibilities
    • Accompany residents to medical appointments
    • Ensure doctors’ orders are carried out
    • Other duties as assigned

    CASE MANAGEMENT RN RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

    • Complete required nursing reports
    • Determine LVN assignments and schedules
    • Participate in IDT (Inter-Disciplinary Team) meetings
    • Work with Pharmacy Consultant for Pharmacy Audits
    • Audit MAR (Medication Administration Record) bi-monthly
    • Assist monthly in-service training
    • Oversee and support monthly cycle medications
    • Schedule doctors appointments
    • Ensure specialist referrals and appointments are properly scheduled
    • Prepare client charts for doctor rounds
    • Receive and record doctors’ orders
    • Assist physician on rounds

    RN QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Valid California RN License
    • Minimum of one year of full-time clinical experience as an RN
    • Excellent oral and written skills
    • Strong critical thinking skills
    • Ability to maintain confidentiality
    • Communicate and work professionally and cooperatively with others
    • Experience working with adults with disabilities and/or developmental disabilities preferred
    • Successfully pass all post offer, pre-employment screening requirements, including criminal background check, drug screening, physical exam, and provide proof of eligibility to work in the United States
    • Ability to run, push, pull, bend, squat, kneel, and lift up to fifty (50) pounds
