UNITED CEREBRAL PALSY OF LOS ANGELES, VENTURA & SANTA BARBARA COUNTIES (UCPLA) is hiring DIRECT SUPPORT PROFESSIONAL I (DSP I) to assist developmentally disabled individuals with daily living needs in a group home residential setting. As a DSP I, you will support people with their physical, emotional, and social needs by focusing on the person first. RATE OF PAY: $15.50 PER HOUR
SCHEDULE: 7:00 AM TO 3:30 PM, FRIDAYS, SATURDAYS AND ON-CALL AS NEEDED
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assists and trains persons supported in all independent living skills including: meal preparation, meal clean-up, bed making, laundry, dusting, vacuuming, sweeping, mopping, and other cleaning tasks
- Passes medication, as assigned, per RN medication administration training
- Maintains and promotes a friendly, comfortable, safe environment where people may progress socially, emotionally, and physically
- Follows, observes, and reports on Individual Program Plan (IPP)
- Respects and promotes the rights of individuals
- Provides direct support and other related duties as assigned by supervisor(s) and/or nursing staff
- Assists people when scheduled on doctor's appointments and/or community events
- Follows and implements company policies
- Drives in company vehicles to appointments and community destinations, as assigned
- Attends required in-service trainings
- Performs other duties as assigned to meet department and/or business needs
DSP I QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Must have current First Aid and CPR Certificate
- Current Direct Support Professional I (DSP I) certification; required
- High School Diploma or equivalent; required
- Experience working with developmentally disabled individuals; preferred
- Read, write, comprehend, and communicate in English well enough to perform essential duties and responsibilities
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Communicate and work professionally and cooperatively with others
- Successfully pass all post offer, pre-employment screening requirements, including criminal background check, drug screening, health screening, TB screening and provide proof of eligibility to work in the United States
- Ability to run, push, pull, bend, squat, kneel, and lift up to fifty (50) pounds
- Must have valid and current proof of legal right to drive in California
