    POSITION OVERVIEW

    The Pension Analyst will need to develop a thorough understanding of the Plans and their rules and regulations and must be guided by them in fulfilling the essential duties and responsibilities as described below. A Structured Training Program is used to help the Pension Analyst learn quickly. The Pension Analyst performs technical and administrative duties associated with the processing and verification of members’ pension inquiries and applications applying the rules and regulations of the Plans. Researches issues and communicates with members, families, union representatives, other UFCW departments and financial institutions.

    CANDIDATES WHO HAVE BEEN SUCCESSFUL IN THIS ROLE: EXPERIENCE IN BENEFITS, ACCOUNTING OR FINANCE OR FROM THE BANKING INDUSTRY. PENSION EXPERIENCE IS NOT REQUIRED.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Reviews, analyzes and verifies pension inquiries and applications
    • Determines benefit eligibility, evaluate and determine retirement types’ member qualifies for and calculate pension benefits amount under all Trust Fund plans.
    • Performs and/or verifies required calculation of: vesting credit, plan service credit, account balance, service breaks, and other issues.
    • Performs data entry and data correction tasks to update and correct member information. Update pension data in Pension information systems.
    • Prepare reports in support of disbursement totals.
    • Assists in training and verifying work of other Pension Analysts.
    • Assists with special projects.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    • High school diploma
    • Effective communication skills and knowledge of grammar, spelling, punctuation and simple mathematical functions like percentages, ratios, etc.
    • Strong analytical and organizational skills.
    • Experience with Microsoft Office, Excel and Word or equivalence.
    • Knowledge of Defined Benefit and Defined Contributions Plans a plus.
