Univ. of Illinois at Chicago, College of Pharmacy seeks multiple Visiting Research Specialists. The lab of Dr. Scott Franzblau lab focuses on Tuberculosis research. The candidate will work closely with the Principal Investigator on projects related to identifying drug leads for the treatment of various diseases including tuberculosis and other mycobacterial infections. Under the supervision of the Primary Investigator, the primary job duties include but are not limited to the maintenance and cultivation of bacteria or mammalian cell lines and the testing of various compounds for bacterial or mammalian cell growth inhibition in vitro. Duties may include the infection of mice with virulent bacteria, treatment of infected mice by oral or parenteral routes, euthanasia of mice and processing of tissues for bacterial or pharmacokinetic analyses. Bachelor's degree in science or related field required. Master's degree in science preferred. A minimum of 3 years of related research experience. Possesses and applies comprehensive knowledge of research principles, concepts, practices and methods. Proficient in specific lab research techniques. Experience handling laboratory animals (mice). Ability to adopt a new protocol(s), when needed, to the lab's repertoire of techniques.
