Max Schafer would like to invite you to consider becoming one of the founding members of the musical improv troupe "Feel Your Feet." This is a Los Angeles non-professional troupe, with the intention of becoming professional. The training we are investing in in order to develop as a cohesive multi-talented group, we will be with the best professionals and instructors from around the world, to help us develop skills in different areas and create something truly unique. This will include proficiencies in playing musical instruments, dance, and even other talents like juggling! We will begin with Lisa Lynn: we are bringing in one of the best workshop leaders and performers in Musical Improv (Lisa Lynn, Founder and Director of Acaprov, from London, England) She will be our first guest director and workshop leader for a six week course. Auditions will take place on July 11 at different times. Here are the steps: Look at the workshop schedule. You must be able to attend all sessions if you are accepted. Lisa is an award-winning professional actor with a First Class Honours Degree in Musical Theatre; she trained at The University of Central Lancashire and The American Musical Theatre Academy London. Her post-grad acting training includes Stella Adler Academy LA and Bernard Hiller Studio (LA, Ischia and London). She also has a teaching degree from The University of London. Lisa will be teaching an introduction to 'Performer as Musician' musical improv step-by-step, integrating: rap, beatboxing, singing, dance and playing instruments into on stage and in character improv play - to help us to create something truly unique in the improv scene. She will assist us toward putting together our own performance structure. Think STOMP meets the dance ability and character work of CATS. The cost is: $180. He is the author of "Viola Spolin's Theater Games for the Classroom" Multimedia CD. He has studied under and was directed by Viola Spolin. He was stage manager for Paul Sills. He runs the World Spolin Network, Musical Dance Network, and Dance Impro Network on Facebook. He also studied with Carol Sills, Aretha Sills, Alan Arkin, Dick Schaal, Avery Schrieber, Bob Moyer, and Gary Schwartz. Max will be running informal playful sessions in July in order for the group to get to know each other. In August he will provide Spolin acting workshops, and arranging performance opportunities. Eventually he will start bringing in guest celebrities and workshop leaders. FAQ's What is the most important criteria for passing the audition? Your schedule. If you cannot make this group the priority for your weekends and evenings, it will be impossible to deal with schedule conflicts. To have a tight group, we must be able to know we can count on you. Who should audition? We are looking for a variety of talents. We aim to be diverse. We will make our room safe and inclusive for all improvisers including LGBTQIA+ community members, BIPOC and those with special needs. You must have the ability to play and be playful, to have focus, and the desire to develop skills in new areas. This group will be exploring new and so far unexplored areas of improv such as actor-muso improvisers, triple-threat specialist dancer improvisers, and beatboxing actors. Therefore, we are not looking for people who are strongly attached to certain methods or types of improv training. We will be posting a lot online, so we will need your permission for any videos we share. Players with social media marketing skills, graphic design, or video editing skills can earn stipends. You may be asked to do free performances at malls, events, or schools. What if I have financial concerns? Should I apply? Yes, we will try to have workshops that are free, low cost, or at reduced rates. That may not always be the case. But we will try to work it out. Also, we will try to space the trainings apart. We can look for opportunities for scholarships and other sources of funding. Please email us. What if I am not a great singer? Or I can't play an instrument? Or can't dance? That's OK. The group will support each other until we can all develop all our talents. Eventually, you will be expected to be involved in every part of the performance and business, including social media, musical direction, sound effects, and dance - so until we are all strong in all areas, a willingness to learn and put the work in is paramount.
