SUMMARY:
The AVP Fraud Risk Management will take the lead in the development of fraud processes, strategies and controls to mitigate fraud risk while balancing member experience and operational impact to the credit union. The leader in this role will also assume broader responsibility for the development and oversight of the organization’s Enterprise Risk Management program, as well as tracking and reporting for the credit union Supervisory Committee.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Builds and oversees a fraud team and strategy responsible for detecting/mitigating/preventing fraudulent activity and operational losses.
- Develops and monitors fraud strategies, tools, processes, and models. Ensures delivery of superior fraud detection while balancing customer experience, loss mitigation and operational expense.
- Works collaboratively with internal departments and external vendors to ensure optimal strategic use of fraud tools. Works with external vendors on fraud model development, performance monitoring and implementation.
- Continuously monitors for emerging risks and fraud-related trends.
- Evaluates new technology, tools and processes to enhance detection and reporting of overall fraud losses and trends.
- Provides effective leadership, education, coaching and consultation for organizational fraud policies, procedures, initiatives and programs.
- Leads interdepartmental Fraud Committee to identify and discuss new trends, concerns, initiatives, etc.
- Oversees reactive and proactive reporting and analytics around operational performance, fraud prevention and other related requests. Prepares and presents fraud/operational risk monitoring and dashboard reports to executive leadership as necessary.
- Tracks Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) action items and initiatives. Prepares reporting for, and participates in, ERM Committee meetings.
- Prepares and presents all risk management reporting for monthly Supervisory Committee meetings.
- Assigns and tracks responses for all NCUA member complaints received.
- Ensures that all activities and duties are carried out in full compliance with regulatory requirements and credit union policies.
- Leads, motivates and develops the performance of the team and key contributors.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Finance, or related equivalent experience required
- Minimum of seven (7) years of bank or credit union experience in fraud risk management, financial fraud investigations, and assessment and mitigation of risk required
- Minimum of three (3) years direct leadership experience, with the ability to lead remotely as well as in person, required
- Verafin expertise required
- Knowledge of Symitar and operational processes relating to checks and ACH required
- Prior teambuilding experience strongly desired
- Broad organizational risk or Enterprise Risk Management experience strongly desired
- Prior experience reporting to a Board or executive committee desired
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Excellent analytical skills including the ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw conclusions
- High level of ethical behavior
- Organized with strong time-management skills
- Must be flexible and adaptable, and thrive on challenge and change
- Must be a self-starter with the ability to work independently and self-motivated
- Produces accurate work with strong attention to detail
- Protects the confidentiality of sensitive information
- Knowledge and understanding of state and federal rules and regulations pertaining to areas of responsibilities, as well as credit union policies and procedures, is also necessary.
- Proficiency required in Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
