    USA Rare Earth, LLC (USARE) is building a facility in Stillwater, Oklahoma, where we are standing up equipment to go from Rare Earth Oxides through to sintered neodymium magnets. USARE owns an 80% operating interest in the Round Top-Heavy Rare Earth, Lithium, and Critical Minerals Project located in Hudspeth County, West Texas. And with its development of the first rare earth and critical minerals processing facility in the United States (Colorado), and ownership of the only neodymium iron boron (NdFeB) permanent magnet manufacturing capability in the Western Hemisphere, USARE is poised to become the leading domestic supplier of critical raw materials required for the electric vehicle, green energy, consumer electronics, and defense industries, as well as battery grade lithium and tech metals needed for chipsets, semiconductors, and 5G.

    POSITION OVERVIEW:

    USA Rare Earth (USARE) is an equal opportunity employer seeking a results-driven Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Specialist. The position is based in STILLWATER, OKLAHOMA, and reports directly to the VICE PRESIDENT OF ENVIRONMENTAL SERVICES & SUSTAINABILITY. This is a hands-on role. We are seeking an EHS specialist to join the Rare Earth Metals and Sintered Neo-Magnet team. The EHS specialist will be part of the Environmental Services & Sustainability team and will work with USARE’s management, internal technical experts, and external engineering providers to ensure compliance with environmental, health, and safety standards. The role will be responsible for supporting the development and implementation of EHS management processes and procedures and will drive the prevention of serious incidents through the implementation of high-risk-activity management processes, emergency response planning, and safety protocols. You will work to ensure that a safe and healthy working environment is achieved by identifying risks and unsafe practices, identifying and leading improvement initiatives, and monitoring performance and environmental compliance. This role requires a high degree of technical knowledge, excellent verbal, and written communications skills to manage compliance activities within the facility. Preferably seeking candidates with knowledge and experience in Oklahoma.

     

    WHO YOU ARE:

    • An enthusiastic professional with a Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Health, Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering or a related discipline.
    • 3 or more years professional EHS working experience in manufacturing environments.
    • Knowledge of OSHA regulations, process safety management, safety standards and codes, EPA RMP, and environmental (air, water, waste) regulations.
    • Knowledge of electrical safety, ANSI, and NFPA standards.
    • Experience with Risk Assessment and Hazard Analysis.
    • Experience with Root-Cause Analysis techniques.
    • Ability to multi-task and manage conflicting priorities.
    • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to interpret rules and regulations.
    • Develop comprehensive understanding of all process steps, including alloying, casting, compaction, sintering, and magnet finishing and assembly, to enable an integrated approach to environmental, health, safety, and sustainability practices.
    • Perform and manage regular safety audits, record keeping and reporting requirements to ensure compliance with State/Local and Federal laws.
    • Develop, implement, and maintain company ESH policies, procedures, and best practices.
    • Support leaders to ensure all team members understand and comply with applicable regulatory, plant and company EHS and related policies and procedures.
    • Create and execute environmental, safety and health training and monitoring programs.
    • Define, design, and implement environmental, health and safety practices for new processes, facilities, and equipment.
    • Interact, lead discussions and negotiations with regulatory authorities such as occupational safety, environmental, fire, etc.
    • Maintain knowledge of State/Local and Federal laws concerning, environmental, health and safety.
    • Advise operators and management on regulatory requirements and provide technical support as necessary.
    • Respond and provide oversight for emergency and spill response.
    • Other duties as assigned.
    • Work proficiently both individually and with teams.
    • Strong computer and software skills: Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Power Point, Excel and Database systems.
    • Willingness to work a flexible schedule.
    • Willingness to travel as required in performance of role but not more than 25%.

     RELATIONSHIPS WITH OTHERS:

    • Reports to Vice President of Environmental Services & Sustainability
    • Dotted line responsibility to the Head of Metal & Magnets Business Unit
    • Works closely with Director of Magnets, Director of Metals, Head of Quality, and the Continuous Improvement team
    • Supports the production supervisors
    • Works closely with external service providers
    • Work with other USARE business units and their safety leads

    WORK ENVIRONMENT:

    Work will mainly be conducted on the manufacturing floor and in a maintenance shop. This may include exposure to extremes in temperature and humidity, moving mechanical parts, risk of electrical shock, toxic chemicals, explosives, fumes, or airborne particles.

    Personal protective equipment is required when performing work in the manufacturing plant environment, including hard hat, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety footwear, and as needed, respirator, rubber steel-toe boots, protective clothing, gloves, and any other protective equipment, as required.
