Job Summary
Surgeforce Group is a professional staffing and workforce solutions firm specializing in temporary staffing, permanent placement, and workforce management. We are seeking a full-time Unemployment Specialist to advocate for Surgeforce at our corporate office in Columbus, OH. This role is responsible for reducing unemployment insurance costs and protecting company profitability through accurate claim analysis, timely responses, and effective hearing representation. This is a 100% on-site role.
Primary Responsibilities
- Review unemployment claims and analyze separation details to determine employer liability and financial risk
- Prepare, submit, and track claim responses, protests, appeals, and determinations exceeding state deadlines
- Interpret and apply state unemployment laws and apply company policy to mitigate unemployment charges
- Serve as the primary point of contact with state unemployment agencies regarding claims and hearings
- Prepare documentation, exhibits, and witnesses for telephone administrative hearings
- Represent the company in unemployment hearings as required
- Monitor unemployment activity within assigned states to identify effective response strategies and risk factors
- Partner with internal business partners to obtain separation details, documentation, and timelines
- Ensure all work is accurate, complete, and submitted within required Surge business & department timeframes
Qualifications
Required:
- 1-2 years of experience in staffing or human resources (unemployment experience preferred)
- Experience reviewing employment separations and terminations and applying company policies
- Strong analytical skills with attention to detail and deadlines
- Ability to interpret policies, meet internal timelines, and differentiate factual versus non-factual scenarios
- Ability to work accurately, quickly & independently in a deadline-driven environment
- Dependable and consistent on-time attendance in a full-time, in-office role
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, & Outlook
