    USBA is a not-for-profit association providing affordable life insurance and financial products to our members and their families, delivering friendly, professional, expert service. USBA membership is available to active duty or retired members of the U.S. military, reserves (including I.R.R. and National Guard), honorably discharged veterans, active Federal civilian employees, and the spouse and dependent children of any of the above categories.

    The primary tasks of this job are to process daily accounts receivable duties, process accounts payable on a weekly basis, and balance the loans and surrenders on a monthly basis. The Accounting Associate I position has a comprehensive training program for both the accounting system and the policyholder administration system. Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Excel and Word. Also, they will interact with USBA members via telephone, written correspondence, internet and email. This position is responsible for a variety of functions.  

    JOB DUTIES:

    • Process customer service and department correspondence.
    • Answer inbound members calls, provide accurate and timely information and customer service as required.
    • Process and maintain EZ Pay records
    • Process and enter remote deposit
    • Primary department to take customer payment calls.
    • Take annual Age Change member calls.
    • Assist employees with difficult accounting-related customer service calls.
    • Work accounting internal emails from customer requests.
    • Assist employees with difficult accounting-related customer service calls.
    • Work accounting internal emails from customer requests. 
    • Correspond and create premium notices requested when billing information has changed.
    • Process incoming department mails.
    • Prepare company outgoing mail.
    • Process all return mail and find the new address.
    • Barcoding member documentation into imaging.
    • Work I-Mail workflow.
    • Research and process refund for A=P with client suspense reports.
    • Research and process refund for Inactive accounts with client suspense reports.
    • Communicate with member regarding reoccurring credit card status changes.
    • Assist the Accounting Associate II positions when needed.
    • Complete additional duties as needed.

    JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Good with number and basis math skills
    • A strong work ethic and complete understanding of "quality over quantity"
    • An accountability for your actions
    • Willingness to listen and learn
    • Positive attitude and a willingness to help out wherever it's needed
    • Strong desire and willingness to give a high-level of customer service
    • Strong attention to detail (this is an absolute must!)
    • Good business writing skills (good grammar, spelling and overall written communication)
    • Able to sit for long periods of time and work independently
    • Common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form
    • Proficient with Word Processing software and Spreadsheet software
    • Ability to work in a team environment as well as be self-motivated
    • Flexible and able to perform various tasks with tight deadlines
    • Insurance background a plus, but not a requirement
