  • Responsibilities

    Performs a wide variety of semi-skilled and skilled tasks in the construction, installation, servicing, repair and maintenance of the District's mains, service lines and related appurtenances.

    Operates light, medium and heavy-duty motorized equipment.

    SELECTION CRITERIA

    _The following criteria will be assessed in evaluating candidates: _

    1. WORK EXPERIENCE: Assessed through oral interview, practical hands-on test, reference checks, review of work history and review performance evaluations; weighted at 50%.
    2. SAFETY: Assessed through oral interview, practical hands-on test, and performance evaluations; weighted at 25%.
    3. INTERPERSONAL/COMMUNICATION: Assessed through oral interview and reference checks; weighted at 25%.

    _ The typical pass point for testing is 70% unless otherwise indicated._

    Required Skills

    Ability to operate power equipment, including trucks, loaders and related equipment.

    Ability to perform arc and electric welding and metal cutting.

    Ability to follow and apply oral and written instructions.

    Knowledge of safe work methods and safety regulations pertaining to the work, traffic, etc.

    Required Experience

    One year of experience in utility or public works-related maintenance and construction work.  Requires possession of  a valid class A California driver's license is desirable, and some positions may require the ability to obtain such within 6 months of hire into the Pipeline Construction Utility I classification; and provide proof of and maintain a driving record acceptable to the District's automobile insurance provider.   All employees required to possess a valid Class A driver’s license for the performance of their duties shall be subject to random drug and alcohol testing pursuant to District policy and federal law.

     FLEX REQUIREMENTS

    A Field Services Pipeline Construction Utility Worker I may advance or “flex” to the Pipeline Construction Utility Worker II class after 6-12 MONTHS of experience in the Pipeline Construction Utility Worker I class, and must have received a rating of “meets expectations” or better on most recent annual performance evaluation.  The Field Services Pipeline Construction Utility Worker I must also demonstrate proficiency to perform the full range of duties as described in the Pipeline Construction Utility Worker I/II job description.  This includes demonstrating journey-level knowledge of the District’s systems, equipment, facilities, standards, and procedures.  Possession of a Class A drivers license with tank endorsement is required for all Pipeline Construction Utility Worker II positions in the Field Services department
