    • Range 220: $53.50 - $66.62 Hourly; $9,273.33 - $11,547.47 Monthly

    GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

    Under direction, the Assistant Engineer for Eastern Municipal Water District performs a variety of professional-level civil engineering work in the research, design, and construction of water, sewer, and recycled water capital infrastructure improvement, maintenance, and construction projects; prepares a diverse range of engineering plans, specifications, calculations studies, reports, and related documents; conducts site visits to monitor construction project progress; and performs related duties as assigned.

    _This position requires knowledge of hydraulic system analysis applicable to civil engineering; research principles and practices; and modern equipment and communication tools used for business functions and program, project, and task coordination, including computers and software programs relevant to work performed. It also requires the ability to perform technical research and analyze engineering and mathematical problems, evaluate alternatives, and recommend and adopt effective courses of action; prepare clear, concise, and accurate reports, drawings, maps, notes, correspondence, and other written materials; effectively use computer systems, software applications relevant to work performed (including GIS and hydraulic modeling), and modern business equipment to perform a variety of work tasks. _

    DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:

    This is the fully qualified journey-level non-registered classification in the Engineering series. Incumbents perform the full range of duties as assigned, working independently, and exercising judgment and initiative. Positions at this level receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies of the work unit.

    This class is distinguished from the Associate Civil Engineer I in that the latter is the first registered level within the Engineering series, performing the more complex registered level engineering work.

    SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXCERCISED:

    Receives direction from assigned supervisory or management personnel. Exercises no direct supervision over staff.

    Required Experience

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    Any combination of experience and education that provides the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying, along with the specific licenses/certifications as outlined below:

    Experience:

    • Two (2) years of professional engineering experience preferably in a public utility environment.

    Education:

    • Equivalent to a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in civil engineering, or related engineering discipline.

    Licenses/Certifications:

    • Some positions may require a valid California driver’s license and the ability to maintain insurability under the District’s Vehicle Insurance Policy.
    • Possession of an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certificate, or proof of eligibility to sit for the California Professional Engineer (P.E.) examination.

    DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
