    Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP is a leading international law firm with more than 900 lawyers in offices throughout the United States, Europe, Asia and the Middle East. We are currently seeking a Accounts Payable Specialist in the Finance department reporting to the Accounts Payable Manager.

    The position will reside in the Washington, DC office and will be responsible for providing accounts payable department support, including monitoring telephone and email requests, reviewing and processing invoices, processing expense reports, handling the department mail, and processing various local vendor invoices thru Chrome River. The Accounts Payable Specialist is expected to perform all responsibilities with a commitment to providing superior service to the firm’s clients, attorneys, advisors and staff, and maintaining an atmosphere of teamwork and continuous improvement.  

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES OF THIS POSITION INCLUDE:

    • Monitor accounting telephone and email correspondence and address questions and requests according.
    • Handle incoming and outgoing accounting department mail.
    • Handle all Accounts Payable vendor telephone, mail, and email correspondence.
    • Review billable and non-billable check requests for processing, as well as rush check requests processing thru Chrome River.
    • Review attorney and staff expense reports for accuracy and compliance.
    • Handle vendor billable and non-billable invoices, review coding and approvals, including electronic invoices thru Chrome River.
    • Research vendor past due statements.
    • Reconcile vendor statements to open accounts payable invoices.
    • Monitor and follow up on uncashed checks to vendors
    • Print and distribute various monthly reports.
    • Handle various reporting and research projects.

    QUALIFICATIONS (EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES):

    • High School Diploma or equivalent
    • Two or four year college degree preferred
    • Prior law firm accounting department experience in accounts payable and client billing preferred
    • Working knowledge of law firm accounting software and CMS accounting software preferred
    • Working knowledge of e-billing systems preferred
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Outlook and Excel
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills
    • Ability to read, comprehend and follow instructions
    • Ability to work independently and with a team
    • Strong service orientation and an ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with peers, office and firm management, and outside business partners
    • Ability to use critique of work to improve performance
