    We are seeking a SYSTEMS ARCHITECT to join our team and support our client in ASHBURN, VA. The position will be responsible for assessing and documenting current state architecture, developing future state architecture and plans, system/data risks and inefficiencies, systems context/flows, data services and architecture governance. Successful applicants will demonstrate their experience providing Systems Engineering support to develop, maintain, and integrate activities for large-scale, enterprise systems for our customer. The ideal candidate will have Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Customs and Border Protection (CBP) or related experience.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Supports team lead in developing database functions, scripts, stored procedures and triggers to support data migration and ingestion from the current state to the new environment.
    • Provides technical assistance to resolve all database issues related to performance, capacity, and access and ensures data integrity and quality in database systems. Maintains standard policies for database development activities.
    • Work closely with engineers to manage and monitor performance, capacity and security of database systems.
    • Prepares documentation regarding database design, configuration and change management tasks.
    • Ensures compliance with Government data standards and records management policies.
    • Develops backup and recovery capabilities, as well as contributes to disaster recovery/business continuity plans.
    • Ensures the databases are operational and provide valid and relevant data.
    • Coordinates with SMEs in developing data models and relationships between data elements. Provides technical assistance to resolve all database issues related to performance, capacity and access and ensures data integrity and quality in database systems.
    • Ensures compliance with Government data standards and records management policies.
    • Develops backup and recovery capabilities, as well as contributes to disaster recovery/business continuity plans.
    • Prepares documentation regarding database design, configuration and change management tasks.

    WORK EXPERIENCE:

    • 10+ years of experience in Systems Engineering, IT / Data architecture planning, design and development specially in 3 tier architecture (zones)
    • Demonstrated experience designing a heterogeneous environment across application development, multiple database platforms, and complex data processing using Extract, Transform, and Load (ETL) technologies.
    • Extensive experience configuring workflows and mapping for Extract Transform and Load (ETL) data processing technologies (preferably Informatica)
    • Extensive experience with developing system architecture diagrams, mapping, and other related system documentation
    • Demonstrated experience with a detailed understanding of current and future technology trends as they apply to those environments, including data visualization
    • Demonstrated experience identifying technology gaps in current system capabilities and architecture.
    • Extensive experience designing and implementing performance monitoring/management solutions to measure system performance across numerous technologies and platforms.
    • Experience with the architecture design of complex systems that includes multiple technologies and platforms.
    • Experience with multiple Operating Systems to include Microsoft 2012/2016, Red Hat Linux v7 or higher.
    • Experience with designing complex systems that includes multiple technologies and platforms.
    • Demonstrated experience drafting documentation including functional and system requirements, configuration management plans, disaster recovery plans, user guides, System Security Plans, production data waivers.
    • Experience with developing and using scripting (SQL, Java, Unix/Linux) to automate processes

    JOB SKILLS:

    • Ability to work effectively across internal and external organizations.

    EDUCATION:

    • Bachelor's Degree required with a concentration in Computer Science, Information Technology, and Information Systems required

    • Excellent verbal and written skills, ability to present proposals and performance data, comfortable interfacing all levels of organization
    • Excellent ability to convey technical information to non-technical individuals.

    TRAVEL:

    • Willing to travel (up to 5%)

    ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

    • Mainly sedentary; in an office environment. May be required to lift up to ten (10) pounds
    • Flexible in working extended hours
