  • Responsibilities

    Description: Organize Religious Education Programming and Outings including leadership development for High School Youth and assist with the administrative and preparation work for all RE offerings. This job would be a great internship for education, philosophy, or religious studies majors

    Reports to: Director of Lifespan Religious Education

    Hours: 10 hours per week, Must be available Sundays and some other weeknight and weekend times

    ** Pay: ** $12-$15 per hour for 10 months (October through May)

    Essential Requirements

    • Must be 22 years of age or older.

    • Must complete and pass all Required PA background checks.

    • Possess intercultural competencies.

    • Possess LGBTQ competencies.

    • Knowledge of adolescent development and ability to have healthy relationships with youth including online communications.

    • Ability to foster leadership in the youth as well as ability to be present and to be a role model

    • Ability to use congregational communication systems.

    • Ability to be an active listener and to manage youth dynamics in a healthy and safe way.

    • Possess organizational skills and be computer savvy.

    • Ability to collaborate and communicate effectively.

    Preferred

    • PSU Student, Someone with a UU background (optional)

    Essential Duties

    • Collaborates with the Director of Lifespan Religious Education (DLRE) and youth to plan, supervise, and present engaging youth programming for High School designed to develop and affirm social justice work, leadership development, spiritual practice and Unitarian Universalist theology while creating an atmosphere of fellowship and fun.
    • Creates rules of engagement and covenant in partnership with the youth and maintains safe boundaries within all youth group programs and church sponsored activities as well as in individual interactions with students in accordance with the UUFCC Child and Youth Safety Policy
    • Maintains effective interpersonal relationships and skilled communication with youth, parents, and congregants.
    • Maintains a high level of personal conduct as a face of the congregation.
    • Shares concerns about youth with the DLRE and minister as needed.
    • Collaborates with parents and DLRE in support of Youth Group fundraising activities.
    • Coordinates, implements and/or attends special youth events and outings as possible, as identified by DLRE and/or Minister.
    • Assists the DLRE in administrative work such as record keeping, filing, lesson preparations, communications, and maintenance of RE classrooms and supplies.
    • Meets regularly with the DLRE.
    • Other duties as assigned or as necessary.
