    JOB SUMMARY:

     

    The Operating Room Manager is responsible for Operating Room and Sterile Processing coordination, resource management, and reviewing the surgery schedule to ensure necessary resources will be available, sufficient information is available for planning patient care, and staff is communicated to regarding the surgeries.

     

    PRINICIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

     

    • The Operating Room Manager works with to identify the cost-effective systems needed to support the business of the department taking into account business trends, resource availability and changes in customers in support of the hospital mission, vision, and facility goals. This position establishes effective working relationships with all constituencies including patients, physicians, employees, volunteers and vendors. The OR Manager identifies and remedies through continuous customer satisfaction data and employee involvement. The OR Manager takes patient assignments as needed to meet census demands and fluctuations. Other duties as required by the Director of Surgical Services and or CNO.
    • Attends leadership and other hospital meeting as directed or needed.
    • Collaborates with surgeons, educator, and staff in introducing new technology and appropriate scheduling of cases.
    • Communicates specialty needs to Operating Room, SPD, and materials management; elevates issues.
    • Collaborates with Anesthesia, Surgeons, Charge Nurse, and Team Leads in problem solving and planning for needs as appropriate.
    • Communicates current specialty issues to Direct Reports, Director of Surgical Services, and Senior Leadership.
    • Identifies Capital Equipment needs in collaboration with surgeons, charge nurses, and staff, and completes Capital Equipment requests for submission, manages equipment and uses appropriate data and metrics to manage capital equipment on-going.
    • Passes case info on to staff assigned to cases as appropriate, works with staff to keep preference cards up to date to incorporate surgeon preferences into the plan of care for the patient.
    • Participates in orientation of staff; works with preceptor(s) where indicated, and oversee on-going supervision of all OR/SPD staff, verifies and maintains accurate records of staff training and orientation as indicated by hospital policy and procedures.
    • Participates on facility Safety Committee.
    • Assists with staffing the unit as needed.
    • Responsible for areas of control to meet regulatory requirements and TJC standards
    • Functions as a clinical resource in for staff, appoints appropriate oversight and care coordination.
    • Continually focuses on building of, updating of, and changes to preference sheet's and care plans.
    • Remains knowledgeable regarding clinical standards and surgical trends

    Required Skills

    EDUCATION:

    • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing, BSN preferred
    • MSN degree, preferred

     

    CERTIFICATION:

    • Current Texas RN License
    • CNOR preferred
    • BLS required. Must get ACLS and PALS within 60 days of hire date

     

    SPECIFIC JOB EXPERIENCE:

    • Past work performance demonstrating good working relationships and communication skills with surgeons and staff
    • Minimum 2-3 years' experience management/supervisory experience

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

    • Knowledge of TDH, Medicare and the Joint Commission rules & regulations
    • Ability to make independent sound nursing and management decisions
    • Liaison between staff and administration as needed.
    • Demonstrates cultural sensitivity and plans for special age specific needs of surgical patients and their families.
    • Ability to utilize Electronic Health Care Record of patient documentation, chart audit and other reviews

    Required Experience
