    The Public Health Analyst will support Jackson County Health Department’s ongoing initiatives and operations through the planning, coordination, and supervision of the gathering, analyzing, and reporting of data. This position will also design and execute quantitative and qualitative analyses to enable measurement of efficiency and effectiveness of public health programs around COVID-19 response and operations. 

    Required Skills

    Minimum Requirements

    1. Master’s degree from a four year college or university in public health, epidemiology, biostatistics, or other closely related field.
    2. Knowledge of principles, techniques and application of behavioral epidemiology.
    3. Demonstrated ability to research, compile and summarize a variety of informational and statistical data and materials. Skilled in methods and techniques of research, statistical analysis and report presentation. Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference.
    4. Knowledge of public health policy generation and analysis.
    5. Ability to attend off site meetings as directed.
    6. Possess and maintain valid driver’s license and appropriate automobile insurance.
    7. Knowledge of the core functions and essential services of public health.
    8. Knowledge of program planning, implementation and evaluation.
    9. Ability to assess critical and complex situations and give analytical solutions.
    10. Knowledge of theories and practices related to: public health, epidemiology, disease prevention, behavioral change, group process, community organizing and mobilizing, social justice, and adult/child learning.
    11. Knowledge of data analysis and research methods.
    12. One or two years of experience in working with data analysis software (SAS, SPSS, STATA, R)
    13. Interpersonal communications, group process and facilitation skills.
    14. Excellent oral and written communications skills.
    15. Demonstrates ability to present information to large audiences.
    16. Demonstrates computer use ability in word processing, spreadsheet, database, and presentation software.
    17. Demonstrates ability to organize work, set priorities, meet critical deadlines and follow up on assignments with a minimal amount of direction.

    Preferred Qualifications

    1. One year of progressive experience working with Geographical Information Systems (GIS).
    2. Ability to read, analyze and interpret professional periodicals and journals, technical procedures and government regulations.
    3. One year of progressive experience developing and analyzing public health policy.
    4. Two years of progressive knowledge and experience in the principles, techniques, and application of behavioral epidemiology.
