  • Responsibilities

    The Maintenance Technician is responsible for maintenance, repair, and service of all facility equipment maintenance and repair for Baylor Surgical Hospital at Fort Worth and Baylor Surgical Hospital Outpatient Center. The Maintenance Technician makes recommendations to the Department Director for repair, replacement, and acquisition of equipment and systems.  This position establishes effective working relationships with all constituencies including patients, physicians, employees, volunteers and vendors.  Job will at times require assisting other departments in the completion of their duties including Environmental Services, Dietary, Security and the Biomedical Departments.

    Required Skills

    • Performs preventive maintenance on a variety of equipment according to established procedures.
    • Inspects, calibrates, adjusts, lubricates and repairs or replaces components.
    • Performs and documents scheduled inspections and electrical safety tests necessary to maintain conformance to code requirements.
    • Assists with all mandatory drills, fire safety tests, etc., to keep BSHFW compliant with EOC and Life Safety standards set forth by Joint Commission and other regulatory bodies.
    • Maintains records in compliance with State/Joint Commission/OSHA requirements.
    • Participates in the development of the safety education program for new employees, and annual education for all employees.
    • Assists the Safety Committee in performing area semi-annual inspection for environmental hazards and unsafe practices. Works with hospital staff to insure implementation of Safety Committee recommendations.
    • Escalates more serious problems to Director of Facilities.

    Required Experience

    EDUCATION                                                                                                              

    • High School Graduate, or equivalent
    • Some College preferred

    LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION                                                                                      

    • None

    SPECIFIC JOB EXPERIENCE

    • Minimum five (5) years’ experience in general maintenance duties of a hospital

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

    • Demonstrates discretionary ability in establishing priorities

    • Regulatory expertise in all covered areas
    • Good working knowledge of repair and maintenance of equipment found in a hospital setting (other than that maintained by Bio-Med services)
