  • Responsibilities

    JOB SUMMARY:

    Assists surgeon at the sterile field by providing appropriate and adequate sterile instruments and other supplies during the operative procedure. Maintain the surgical field through aseptic practices. Works under the supervision of the Registered Nurse as a member of the peri-operative team. Assists in the nursing care and preparation of the surgical patient for surgery. Responsible for the assembly of cases. Works cooperatively with other team members. Monitors PAR level of all surgical instruments and supplies. Cleans and sterilizes all surgical instruments. Participates in departmental staff meetings and performance improvement activities. Provides care within the practice and the policies of the Surgery Center. May have additional responsibilities as designated by the Nurse Manager of the Operating Room and/or Director of Nursing, which include, but are not limited to, serving on committees, participating in quality improvement audits and projects.

    Required Skills

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    Graduate of an accredited school of Surgical Technology or previous on-the-job training in surgical technology. CPR required.  One year experience required intra-operative setting.  Demonstrates clinical competency, leadership, and teaching capabilities.  Physically and emotionally capable of performing responsibilities of position.

Is flexible, reliable, productive, patient-oriented, and self-motivated.  Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served.  Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span.  He/she is able to identify and categorize each patient’s age-specific grouping of needs, such as those for infant, adolescent, or geriatric patients.  Maintains professional conduct and appearance.

    Required Experience

    2-5 years preferred.
