    JOB SUMMARY:

     

     

    Provides technical, educational and coordinating support to ensure efficient point-of-care testing for all areas of the Baylor Scott & White Surgical Hospital Las Colinas.

     

    Required Skills

    PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES:

     

    • Participates in the collection of specimens for laboratory analysis either through direct patient contact or by advising nursing and medical staffs of the proper procedure for collection of such specimens.
    • Coordinates processes for referring tests to outside contracted laboratory.
    • Adheres to established methods, quality control procedures and preventative maintenance schedules
    • Identifies unusual results or abnormalities, correlate laboratory data with diagnosis, identifies discrepancies and takes prompt, appropriate action to assure accuracy.
    • Assures adequate supplies are available.
    • Complies with regulatory agency standards, Adheres to all OSHA compliance laws and Universal precaution procedures. Properly disposes of hazardous materials.
    • Complies with Blood Bank policies to assure compliance with all regulation requirement
    • Networks without source lab for results and timeliness of turnaround time
    • Maintains instruments as required per schedule to ensure integrity and precision; documents maintenance
    • Performs and reviews QC to validate test results. Follows defined protocol for investigating out-of control runs; implements and documents action to be taken.
    • Reports result in a timely manner and notify proper personnel of all critical and alert values immediately. Documents these actions.
    • Participates in continuing education programs and hospital in-services.
    • Any other tasks or services deemed relevant to your area.

     

     

    Required Experience

    EDUCATION                                                                                                                 

    • Associate of Science Degree in Medical Laboratory Technology (or directly related field), which includes supervised clinical internship in an approved laboratory; or equivalent education.
    • All CLIA88 prerequisite education and/or experience requirements applicable to testing personnel are required.

    LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION                                                                                          

    • Certification as MLT(ASCP) or equivalent (AMT or NCA).
    • BLS Required

    SPECIFIC JOB EXPERIENCE

    • Minimum 6 months supervised clinical internship in an approved laboratory.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

    • Good communication and people skills
    • Excellent customer service skills
    • Analytical abilities necessary to perform calculations, calibrate instruments, and relate test results to normal healthy state and to presence of disease or other conditions, which may alter test results.
