Nursing Assistant-PRN
OVERALL RESPONSIBILITY:
To establish guidelines for the nursing assistant as a part of the nursing team, to assist and provide quality of care to the patients of the facility. The nursing assist will provide supportive nursing care to meet the needs of individual patients.

KEY TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Observes and follows policies and procedures set forth by the facility.
Transports requisitions or specimens to the appropriate department.
Assists personal care such as baths, weighing, and linen/bed changes. Recognized patient care priorities and communicates the patient’s needs to the appropriate staff.
Assists in ordering supplies, checking outdates and verifies changes or charges as directed by the department manager.
Performs all other duties as requested or required.
Performs and records Vital Signs on admission and as required
Orients new staff nursing assistants to unit
Trains new staff to all nursing assistant skills including:
Responsible for daily cleaning assignments
Maintains good communication with all staff members.
Write out surgery consents.
Escorts patient to outpatient and verifies by name and date of birth.
Sets up tray for nurse (allergy band, HCS test, Glucometer, etc.)
Takes care of the flow of patients, runs the board.
Calls patients in early.
Calls for CXR, EKG, or lab if not in packet.
Set up IV packets for next day surgery.
Answer call lights.
Offer fluid and snacks to post-op patients.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The employee works in a temperature controlled environment. Candidate must be able to read and speak English fluently, have cognitive skills for math, reading, computer skills, and communication skills to deal well with the public (customers) as well as peers. Vision for near, mid-range, and far accommodation. Hearing for low, medium and high pitch. Position exerts up to 50lb. of force occasionally and/or up to 20lb. of force frequently and/or up to 10lb, of force consistently to move object. Requires pushing, pulling, reaching, kneeling, stooping, and finger dexterity. There is potential for exposure to blood and body fluids (high), and exposure to infectious disease.
