Certified Surgical Technician
TITLE: SURGICAL TECHNICIAN
DEPARTMENT: NURSING
REPORTS TO: OPERATING ROOM NURSE MANAGER
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
Minimum of one year recent experience scrubbing in an ambulatory or hospital based operating room with experience in GI setting. Current CPR certification. Must fluently speak, read, and write English.
EDUCATION:
Graduation from a surgical technician program required.
SCOPE OF AUTHORITY:
Operates as part of a team, carrying out assignments as delegated by nurse manager. Responsible for giving and maintaining quality patient care.
JUDGMENT:
Exercises good judgment during both normal and unexpected occurrences, communicating with other personnel as necessary to maintain a safe environment and provide quality care for patients.
WORK RELATIONSHIPS:
Functions as part of a multidisciplinary team. Must be able to communicate effectively with patients, physicians, and coworkers. Cognizant of the needs of other team members.
JOB RELATIONSHIPS:
Cooperative relationship with other members of the health care team in performing assigned duties.
RESPONSIBILITY FOR RESOURCES:
Provides appropriate equipment and supplies for standard surgical cases. Responsible for prudent use of supplies and proper care of equipment to prevent waste and control costs.
RESPONSIBILITY FOR SAFETY OF OTHERS:
Complies with facility safety policies and procedures. Part of multidisciplinary team
that functions to assure safety of patients, family members, and co-workers.
PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:
Requires good physical and mental condition. Must be capable of standing or walking 80% of work day, pushing carts and equipment, carrying and lifting instrument trays, and moving and positioning of surgical patients. Requires the ability to maintain composure and function appropriately in stressful situations.
