  • Responsibilities

    The following description of the job responsibilities and performance expectations are intended to reflect the primary responsibilities of the job, but are not intended to describe all duties other responsibilities as may be assigned from time to time.

    • Maintains patient demographic information and provides documentation for procedures.
    • Discusses documentation with patient and family member confirming that instructions are understood and questions answered.
    • Answers patient and family member questions and refers questions to healthcare professionals when appropriate.
    • Determines patient qualification for coverage by third party payer and informs patient or family member of status; if patient is not covered, arranges for payment.
    • Review patient deductibles and/or copays and records information into the billing system/spreadsheets provided to the front end department at all locations.
    • Counsels patients about Facility charges, insurance coverage and the intra-operative experience.
    • Discusses financial obligations with the patient or family member, explaining the fees and reimbursement process.
    • At patient request, provides a written explanation of estimated fee schedules prior to surgery and documents it in the patient's medical record.
    • Assists in planning a payment schedule for the patient
    • Communicates pertinent information from the physician, support staff, insurance companies and other significant parties to the patient.
    • Enters insurance referrals as needed.
    • Forwards all financial documentation to billing department.
    • Completes data entry of patient cost sheets, if applicable.
    • Reviews forms for patient signature; obtains forms or signature(s) as needed.
    • Reports regularly to the Business Office Manager about the status of current projects or workflow.
    • Participates in development of organization procedures and update of forms and manuals.
    • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
    • Maintains strictest confidentiality, adhering to all HIPAA guidelines/regulations.
