    Job responsibilities

    Following physicians’ orders, the Pharmacist compounds and dispenses medications and other pharmaceuticals.

    • Maintains strong knowledge of hospital policies and government regulations and dispenses accordingly.
    • Consults with physicians and nursing staff regarding patient reactions, errors and complaints.
    • Determines and consults on possible drug interactions.
    • Assists in the supervision and training of pharmacy personnel.
    • Participates in Drug Utilization Review.
    • Assists with quality improvement initiatives, inventory and ordering of pharmaceuticals.
    • Monitors, records and communicates as appropriate utilizing computerized documentation systems.
    • Utilizes knowledge of age specific needs of patient in performance of duties and responsibilities.
    • Orients and mentors new staff members.
    • Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
    • Fulfills responsibilities of Pharmacy Manager in their absence.

    Required skills:

    • Current license to practice pharmacy in the State of Tennessee
    • Hospital experience preferred
    • Demonstrate competent knowledge of the development needs of adolescent, adult and geriatric patients.
    • Knowledge of state and federal pharmacy laws.
    • Must possess ability to prioritize responsibilities and handle multiple projects simultaneously.
    • Possess the ability to deal tactfully with all types of personnel, medical staff and the public.
    • Possess the ability to make independent decisions.
    • Customer service abilities including effective listening skills.
    • Assists with the initiation, development, maintenance, and execution of rules and regulations pertaining to professional policies set by the Pharmacy Department.
    • Performs other related duties as assigned.
    • Ability to perform work that requires frequent standing, bending, reaching, squatting, kneeling, moving, lifting of materials and/or equipment up to 50 lbs
