    POSITION SUMMARY

    USPI’s Chief Nursing Officer (“CNO”) will report jointly to Tenet’s Vice-President Patient Care Services & Chief Nursing Officer and USPI’s Chief Operating Officer.

    Day-to-day, the CNO will operate as a key member of the USPI executive team leading USPI’s clinical initiatives system wide. He or she will also collaborate closely with colleagues in the Tenet organization to ensure the alignment and strategic integration of the respective clinical organizations. The CNO is expected to identify and execute on the appropriate synergies and opportunities to leverage available resources between both organizations.

    USPI’s senior nurse-executive ensures that USPI’s field operations have the tools and information needed to 1.) Fulfill USPI’s contractual and regulatory obligations with hospital, health system and physician partners, and 2.) Demonstrate USPI clinical based competencies, including but not limited to quality of care, patient safety, patient and family experience, nursing practice, standards of care, workforce planning and development, continuum of care enhancements, and clinical education.  

    Working with the Chief Operating Officer, the CNO will ensure that behaviors across the USPI enterprise align with the patient centered values critical to the company’s long-term success.

    PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

    • As a key member of the USPI executive team, provide advice, perspective and recommendations for key decisions impacting clinical capabilities, readiness and performance.
    • Develop, implement and evolve a clinical support strategy that fulfills USPI obligations under existing and future operating agreements.
    • Design, deliver, assess and refine USPI’s approach to case management.
    • Develop, implement, monitor and refine programs supporting key clinical initiatives including measurement of quality outcomes, patient safety and the reduction of safety incidents, patient and family experience, workforce planning and development, continuum of care enhancements, nursing practice and education.
    • Collaborate across Tenet’s clinical services to provide USPI’s perspective and needs related to quality, patient safety, continuum of care, workforce planning, clinical practice, education, and patient/family experience.
    • Working with Tenet, develop and implement a clinical recruiting and talent management strategy that enables a more efficient deployment of clinical resources within each market to include workforce planning, staffing strategies, onboarding and talent management and education.
    • Recruit, develop, retain and advance USPI/Tenet’s next generation of nurse executives.
    • Develop, implement and refine USPI’s clinical risk management initiatives.
    • In close coordination with the USPI Chief Medical Officer, develop, articulate and advocate for USPI’s patient centered culture to both internal and external audiences.
    • Oversight and accountability for USPI’s proprietary programs including USPI’s EDGE, BeSafe and BeKind.

    Required Skills

    IDEAL EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS

    • A minimum of 8-years of progressive operational experience as a nurse executive at a regional or multi-system network.
      • Working understanding of the ambulatory surgery environment, preferred.
      • Experience implementing clinical based programs across multi-facility networks, preferred.
      • Demonstrated ability to operate at scale commensurate to USPI.

     

    Required Experience

    • Experience leading major change initiatives in the areas of patient safety, patient satisfaction, and quality and care experience.
      • Demonstrated ability to influence culture change.
    • Experience working in matrix management environments across silos and distinct operating entities.
    • RN required
      • Advanced degree in nursing or healthcare administration required
    • Strong financial acumen with experience overseeing a P&L.
    • Experience with healthcare IT systems.
    • Executive level presence including effective communication skills.
