  • Responsibilities

    JOB SUMMARY: Registers patients, calculates charges, verifies insurance and collects deposits as necessary. Prepares appropriate documents and charts.

    PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES;

    Opens and closes facility as needed. Interviews patient or representative to verify insurance information, demographics and consents on patients chart. Enters pertinent information into computer, prints admitting forms and routes patient chart to designated department. Receives payments from patients, writes receipts, documents types of payment received: cash, check, credit card. Answers and directs all incoming calls. Acts as liaison between recovery room and waiting room. Prepares new and requests established patient charts. Provides miscellaneous secretarial support as needed. Adheres to all company policies and procedures. Observes all safety precautions and complies with all company health and safety rules and procedures.

    ADDITIONAL TASKS, IF APPLICABLE: As assigned by Business Office Manager. Participate in USPI EDGE program.

    MANAGEMENT/SUPERVISORY: N/A. Will work closely with RN’s, Scheduler and the Business Office Manager. Reports to Business Office Manager.


       


    Required Skills

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS

    EDUCATION: High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience; plus minimum of 6 months medical business office experience or equivalent.

     

    Experience:

    LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

    MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

    REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
