UI/UX DESIGNER, PART-TIME (CONTRACT)

Job Description 

POSITION: UI/UX Designer (This is a part-time, contract position) 

TEAM: User Experience 

COMPENSATION: $5-6K per month (20- 30 hours a week) 

STATUS: Contractor 

LOCATION: Fully remote 

WorkIt Labs is seeking a UI/UX DESIGNER with a passion for creating technology that builds power for working people. You will help scale WorkIt Lab’s suite of products for frontline labor organizers, workers, and campaign teams. You will work closely with the Director of User Experience and the 

cross-functional product team to create designs that will deliver on our promise of building high-quality, valuable product features for our labor and non-profit partners and their end users. 

WorkIt Labs is a nonprofit organization that designs, develops, and delivers tools that put power in the hands of workers. Our product suite aims to facilitate the ability of worker organizations to distribute information and resources, do effective relational organizing, and win big on campaigns that change the balance of power in low-wage workplaces and industries across the globe. 

As the UI/UX DESIGNER you will be responsible for leading the creation and refinement of design assets throughout the design process. Responsibilities will include: 

• Collaborate with the Director of User Experience and cross-functional product team to understand requirements and user needs, and propose creative, yet practical, design solutions. 
• Create flow charts, wireframes, mockups, and/or high-fidelity prototypes to effectively communicate the user experience. 
• Lead on developing and maintaining our products’ design system. 
• Facilitate collection of feedback from users and stakeholders and integrate feedback into design updates. 
• Incorporate technical constraints and considerations to ensure that designs are compatible with various platforms (desktop web, mobile iOS, mobile Android, etc.). 
• Manage overall sitemap in collaboration with product team leadership. 
• Support user research blitzes to understand user and partner needs. 
• Provide finalized designs and annotations to product manager by deadlines. 
• Incorporate, experiment, and advocate for best practices around user experience and innovations into our products.

YOU’LL BE A GREAT FIT IF YOU HAVE: 

• A commitment to economic and social justice. You understand and can articulate issues facing communities of color, women, and low-and moderate-income families. 
• Experience creating engaging, user-friendly, thoughtful designs that live out in the world and are used by millions of people. 
• Experience working in Figma, or a similar tool. 
• Experience leading stakeholders through various stages of the product design process. 
• Experience with responsive, cross-platform design for mobile, web, and desktop applications.
• Adept at collecting, synthesizing and incorporating stakeholder feedback. 
• Excellent communication skills and ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical audiences, including the engineers building out your designs. 
• A love for details, but also comfortable talking about strategy and the big picture. 
• A demonstrated commitment to meeting high standards. 
• Experience working on a cross-functional product team is a plus. 
• Webflow experience is a plus. 
• Material Design experience is a plus.
