  • Responsibilities

    With minimal supervision, the Research & Development Maintenance Technician (RDMT) is responsible for the daily maintenance and function of the mechanical aspects of the Global R&D center. The RDMT will also assist in the design, fabrication, conversion, and installation of machines and processes directly related to the launch of new business objectives, new manufacturing processes, and qualification of new raw materials.

    1. Assists the R&D Manager, Facilities and Pilot Manufacturing with the daily maintenance and building function Global R&D center. Building functions include:

                Building Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) Systems

                Facility air compressors

                Equipment chill water system

                Strong Electrical Skills – Basic Electrical / PLC / Drives / High Voltage

    1. Assists with maintenance and up-keep of R&D pilot line converting equipment. Equipment includes:

                Flexographic printing press

                Web-fed die cutters/slitters

                Sheet-fed die cutting and creasing

                Hydraulic presses

                Folding carton gluing equipment

                Maintains adequate records of work performed on equipment and corrective actions taken.        

    1. Assists with design, fabrication, conversion, operation, and training others on the safe installation and use of package converting equipment in support of launching new business initiatives for the Company.

    2. Assists with mechanical process and improvement related projects and programs in support of Global R&D.

    3. Potential for working independently and traveling to GPI manufacturing locations to install and/or troubleshoot package manufacturing machinery.

    4. Maintains function and reliability of building systems, manufacturing equipment and support equipment by performing preventative maintenance; by operating and testing systems & equipment; restoring, repairing, rebuilding or replacing faulty or inoperative components and parts.

    Required Skills

    Qualified candidate will have at a minimum a High School diploma or equivalent (GED), with 3 - 5 years of experience operating, fabricating, and maintaining manufacturing equipment used in the packaging converting industry (printing presses, laminators, die-cutters/sheeters, folder/gluers, metallizers). Candidate must be comfortable working with and around customers.   It is preferable that the qualified candidate have machine shop/machining experience working with typical machine tools such as mills, lathes, welding equipment, etc. Experience in equipment and facilities maintenance with knowledge of electrical/electronics troubleshooting, mechanical repair and building repair. Basic computer skills, data entry. Knowledge of basic industrial electricity high and low voltage AC/DC.

    Ability to lift up to 40-50 lbs. Ability to work safely and effectively on/around large manufacturing equipment. Communicates and works effectively and safely around sometimes dangerous chemicals and chemical environments.
