Unit 42 is offering paid internships at our headquarters in McLean, VA, as well as at our New York, Austin, and Los Angeles offices (and remote work), to motivated students who are working towards BS or MS degrees. Our interns are passionate about security, interested in hands-on practical experience, and value the opportunity to learn from some of the industry’s leading experts in digital investigations.

YOUR IMPACT
Gain the knowledge and experience to start a career in cybersecurity - Each intern will be assigned a mentor as well as a supervisor to support your professional development within the field
Support live client engagements related to matters such as security assessments, cyber breach readiness reviews, cloud assessments, tabletop exercises, penetration assessments, third party security reviews, risk assessments, and other engagement-related duties in accordance with industry regulations, standards, and company policies and procedures for assurance and continuous improvement of security controls
Work with members of the Professional Services team to learn common proactive risk management engagement workflows and further develop your consultative skills
Work with engagement leaders on client-facing engagements to monitor progress, manage risk and ensure key stakeholders are kept informed about progress and expected outcomes while defining potential impacts and creating an effective mitigation strategy
Complete a research project and present your results to the firm at the conclusion of the program
Qualifications
YOUR EXPERIENCE
Passion and enthusiasm for cybersecurity, technology, and risk management
Working knowledge of Microsoft Windows, Macintosh, and Linux operating systems
Training in and/or experience with the fundamentals of cybersecurity risks
Exposure to and/or experience using common commercial and open-source forensic suites and applications (e.g. Metasploit, Niito, Security Onion, Nmap, Wireshark, tcpdump, Log Parser, etc.)
Knowledge of risk frameworks (i.e. NIST CSF, ISO 2700 series, CIS Controls) used for cybersecurity risk assessments
Ability to understand technical concepts and to articulate these topics clearly to all levels of technical aptitude
Ability to adapt quickly to and operate within a fast-paced environment, managing multiple priorities
Current enrollment in a BS/MS degree-granting program, preferably in a related field such as information security, computer science, or cybersecurity
Also desirable, familiarity or proficiency with scripting and/or programming
