POSITION DESCRIPTION:
Reporting to the Director, Student Accounts, the Student Account Specialist is responsible for completing key financial functions in the Student Accounts Office, such as posting and reconciliation of student account receivables, third-party billing and invoicing, Federal Student Aid disbursements/refunds, student payment plans, student outreach to ensure remittance of tuition payments, student account collection and write offs.

KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
EDUCATION/ WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS AND DESIRED SKILLS:
Bachelor’s degree preferred
Thorough understanding of university fiscal operations, including disbursement and credit balance processing and refund calculations (R2T4)
Possess a basic understanding of Bankruptcy law and how it impacts / applies to student debt.
Maintain knowledge of collection laws and guidelines as well as student privacy laws
3-4+ years of experience with the administration of Federal Student Aid, VA and TA funds
Hands on knowledge of crossover payment periods and financial aid packaging with regard to borrower-based academic year (BBAY)
Experience using financial aid software (e.g., Ellucian Banner, NSLDS, COD, VAOnce and EdConnect)
Broad conceptual judgment, initiative, and ability to deal with complex accounting issues
Must demonstrate strong analytical skills as well as professional phone and customer service skills
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to effectively present information to faculty, staff, and/or students.
Mathematical Skills: Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations
Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
